NO Toggle keys no matter what I do!

Toggle Keys feature won't work in 7 64 no matter what I do. The keyboard is an MS Natural one/ergonomic the driver is 6.1.7601.17514.

Yes my sound is ON and working, all I get when I hold down the NUMLOCK is one beep out of the speakers and a message asking me if I want to enable or disable the feature. I choose yes and nothing happens.

I have read all the posts about it and there seems to be no fix. I am disabled and would like this feature to work as it did in XP

Have you installed all of your Important and Optional WIndows Updates after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware? I'd run it now to be sure.


On some OEM PC's it requires a software package after clean install/reinstall to regain full functionality of all the function keys (Fkeys). If XP was preinstalled on the PC were you running the Factory Install or had you already reinstalled? If so I'd look for the software package or Hotfix on the maker's SUpport Downloads webpage.

If this is the homebuilt in your specs with a Dual Boot, what software package did you install for this in XP? If still there I'd boot into XP to see if you see it in Add/Remove in Control Panel.

I was never able to find anything special in my XP SP3 install to make the CAPS lock beep work I simply enabled it and it works using the PC speaker.

I do know that at one time early on in the Win 7 experiment that option worked right away too. But now after a few re-installs it no longer functions. My sound is ON and working but I can't get the silly keys to work as they do in XP.

I am not a fan of letting someone choose what drivers I need. If everything is working OK I don't mess with it just for the sake of doing it. If you can point me to one particular driver that might affect the "caps lock beep" I'd gladly try that one out.

I explained above how to look for special OEM software which might be required for the hotkeys to fully function. Since you didn't reply I have not idea if you've tried that, or what you found if anything.

As stated in my original post I am on disability and can't always use the computer. That being said, I have the settings to D/L new drivers automatically unchecked. I am of the opinion that 'maybe' when the beep did work it was using the default sound drivers for my MB. Those drivers allow the sound to work, yes, but do they allow all the control of the sound that the Soundblaster ones do? No they don't.

Using the SB drivers may have disabled the Caps Lock Beep for some reason. If I have to choose between great sound and keys that beep... I choose the great sound.

Have you installed the latest Soundblaster Win7 software for your PC found on the maker's Support Downloads webpage?

Have you checked there as suggested for additional software or hotfixes needed to make the FN keys work correctly?

The drivers in use are from Asus and they are all that are available for a Rampage Extreme board. I will ask in the forum to see if anyone has encountered this problem. Since that MB is considered 'old' getting any sort of support for it is slim to none. But I'll ask anyway you never can tell.....

I see you have a sound card so that's where I'd start, on the maker's Support Downloads webpage.

Otherwise may need to go to Creative's website to import the SoundBlaster software if it's missing.

I know this thread is bit old now so just in case somebody else stumbles in, here's how I was able to resolve the problem:

I recently had to do a factory restore and noticed Toggle Keys had stopped working after re-installing. To cut a long story short, I finally updated the Audio drivers which I downloaded from Dell's website (Realtek for Dell Studio XPS 8100) and lo and behold, they are now working again. Yay.

Hope this helps somebody else along the way.
