Hi,

I'm trying to get my laptop (Dell XPS L702X, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) to detect my USB devices and install the relevant driver.

I've tried connecting a USB stick, my iPhone, and a laser mouse, but nothing works. It detects that something has been plugged in, then it tries to find a driver on Windows Update, and then I get the error that no driver was found.

In Device Manager, I can see each device under 'Other devices' with a yellow warning triangle.

All of these devices worked before.

Before these problems I was having trouble with my Nexus 7 tablet being recognized so I uninstalled the driver from Device Manager. I also opened 'USBDeview' and uninstalled the Nexus 7 from there aswell, but I also uninstalled the other devices in the list because I thought that once I plugged them in again, Windows would simply get the latest driver like before:confused:

Now I don't know what to do. I just wasnt my computer to behave like it logically should:
Connect device > Download driver from Windows Update > Use device.

Can anyone help please? Thanks:)

Yes, I still need help with this issue.
I installed Ubuntu on my computer so it now dual boots. In Ubuntu my computer is able to detect my usb devices, so I guess that confirms it is a Windows issue and not a hardware issue.

You definitely have some issues, my friend.
You do not want to see the Other devices category listed.
Let's first try deleting the three Other devices (with the keyboard delete key).
Then, reboot. Hopefully, Windows will put the device drivers where they belong.

After reboot, check the Device Manager.
Do you still have an Other category? If so, which devices are listed?

Let's try this one at a time.
Go to Drivers for XPS 17 (L702X)

JMicron Card Reader is listed there. Download/install, then reboot.
Let's hope that fixes the JMCR device.

If that works, we'll try another in the list.

I read through the article but it doesn't give me ideas about what I should do (I'm not a computer expert:)). I do have the option of just backing up my files and reinstalling Windows. Overkill, but at least it would fix things.

If course, that is always your choice. I would not recommend it until we have tried every available option. Like you said, at this point, it's a bit of an overkill. Besides, we have other techs here who are I smarter then me, so let's just try another approach. OK?

On the Other items, right click the device and select Update Driver Software ... (and cross your fingers :)).

I will wait and see if others can give advice that might help.
In the meantime I will try your suggestion, although I think I might have done that already.
Thanks for taking the time to help me:)

I am sorry, but "Blank" I do not understand.

1) Ugh. Dell site lists the web cam driver under Keyboard & Input Devices! (s/b under Video). Try the Quanta web cam driver

2) That looks like a Logitech mouse. Did you get it from Dell? Try the Logitech Mouse/Keyboard drivers are also on the Dell site (look under Keyboard & Input devices)

3) I also would've guessed the JD Micron driver Gandalf gave you would work. And I don't see the device listed in your last post. Do you still see that same device listed in Device Manager as an Other device?
