No VGA or HDMI output on my Sony Vaio Lap after upgrade to windows 7

There is no VGA or HDMI output on my Sony AR VGN-AR51M

after upgrade to windows 7 from vista, yet my Driver

Support program says my Standard VGA Graphics display

adapter is working ok. I have tried installing various

updates and new display drivers but will not accept them and says it is not compadable.

Yes TVeblen, thought there was something I should mention!! There is no output to a remote monitor.

Ok. That should work even when just running the generic graphics driver that comes with Windows. Meaning I doubt it has anything to do with the dedicated graphics driver.

Have you checked your display settings? Right click on the Desktop > Screen Resolution
With the external monitor plugged into HDMI, try the DETECT button.

Yes I have checked my display settings.

I read a article similar to my problem last night! but I will have to search for it regarding the bios being enabled for that operation but I could not fine it in the bios and the bios will only stay open for a short period then shuts my laptop down until I restart!!

That sounds like a bigger problem.

The BIOS does not normally need to be 'enabled' on a laptop. That article probably referred to a desktop with both on-board and dedicated graphics.
A laptop can have processor based graphics plus a dedicated graphics chip. This can require some configuration, but again it will be in the Display Settings, not in the BIOS Settings.

Post a link to the Sony page for your exact model laptop. It would help to know what you have for graphics adapters.
Also post what graphics drivers you installed and where you got them from.

A question: is the Notebook 32-bit or 64-bit hardware? Is 32-bit Win7 installed or the 64-bit version? It makes a difference in getting the correct version of drivers for the OS installed.

I have installed 32 bit over 32 bit vista.

Installing multiple drivers can be a problem.

Let's try this: Clean install Drivers after test period

First, go to the nVidia website and download the most current known good driver (you've got that).
Then go here:
www.downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)-download-1655.html
and download and install DriverSweeper.

Next, delete or archive the driver folder containing the expanded driver files (i.e. C:\nVidia - delete the whole folder).

Then go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program. Uninstall all the video apps (i.e.: nVidia 3D, Vision, PhysX) first, then uninstall the driver (the Control Panel will go with the driver). You will be asked to restart > Do not restart the computer at this time.

Run Driversweeper and remove any graphics driver remnants. When finished, restart the PC.

When the computer reboots to the desktop Windows will install it's own generic WDDM1.1 driver and you will be asked to restart again. You must do so in order to install the new Drivers > Restart.

Once back on the desktop you can now install the new nVidia drivers from your download.

But wait! Run the PC on the generic Windows driver and check and see if you can get video from the ports now. They should work at this point.

Hi` I have done what you suggest TVeblen and it is basic the same! It has re installed The Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and the new driver; `version 337.88 says (`This graphic driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.) as like most of them.
I have read within a forum that a similar problem and they solved it by modifying an`inf` file on a driver file! This is beyond my logic as to what or how to change these.

Is it possible that you have a different graphics adapter?

Did you try the video ports before you tried to install the nVidia drivers?

Yes as you suggested.

But that was with vista ` GeForce 8400M GT. `

Well if you have a 8400M GT and the nVidia driver says it can't find a compatible graphics adapter then that raises the sickening possibility that the video chip is bad. That would explain your symptoms too. It would also tie into the problem mentioned in Post #5.

I thank you for your conclusions as to the problem that I have presented only I am unable to diagnose this problem as to my ability! I would not be able to test a physical problem like a faulty video chip and come to any decisions to this problem at this moment.
The way I can see if the problem is presented as to a physical one is to reload the vista system back in and restart at that end!! "I don't know why I changed to `7` in the first place it works no different than `vista" `it must have been something to do`?

Well here is another thing you can try: on nVidias site the last best driver recommended for your chip for Vista32 is the 307.83, the most recent is 310.90
You might try installing one of these older drivers in Windows 7. This is not uncommon. Many folks have found older drivers to work better than the newer ones.

Be certain to clean install any new driver. Use the procedure above and be certain to use DriverSWeeper.
Driver version conflicts will cause even more problems.

There is no good reason why the chip should not work in W7, as long as there is a driver for it, and the chip is operating normally.

Another thing: You could also try the Vista driver in W7.
Download and install the Vista 32 bit driver in compatibility mode:

Thank you TVeblen for your response, I will proceed to make these adjustments only it may take a while to get my head round these instructions as I will look for these vista drivers.
I have tried the 307.83 and 310.90 but will try with your instructions in compatibility mode!
