normal speakers sound but low in headphones

hi everybody

I recently bought Acer Aspire 4738 i5 (running 7 ultimate 32bit) and I love it so far. however there's a problem with sound when I plug in the headphone.

when I play it through the build-in speakers the sound is great and actually loud , I've tried another headphones (bought three already :/ ) and still the same thing.

updated the drive, checked the volume to max, tried about everything i could find but nothing seems to work.

I'm starting to think this is an OS issue,
Plz help, headphones are something I can't live without !

its already set on show but I redid it anyway nothing appeared Whs

I can only suspect a bad contact. As you can see, mine shows up properly. Maybe the 3.5mm plug or port is bad and that is the root cause of the problem. Try turning and jiggling it a bit - no force though.

I would love to help you find the problem, but I am out of ideas. Let it rest for a bit. Maybe another member knows better. Wgat really disturbs me is that the headphones do not show up in Playback Devices.

Miscellaneous - clutching at straws:
1) Can you bring up the Realtek Audio Manager and see what level is set there.
2) Do your speakers also have a headphone socket. If so is the result the same as directly connecting headphones.
3) What type of headphones are you using (eg. impedance?)

1-

2- no its a build-n speakers (notebook)

3- a regular 32 ohms

ok do u think its an OS issue, like if I format and reinstall will it solve this ?

I didn't get back because I'm stumped.
Maybe check the specs on the notebook and make sure it isn't just a "line out" connection intended to be connected to amplified speakers.
I would have thought a notebook should be able to drive a pair of headphones.

Before you reinstall the whole OS try running a lightweight live linux CD like Puppy linux. If you have the same sound problem then it's probably hardware related.

Now we are two that are stumped. I also think it is most likely something in the port or a wire is dangling.
