So im using the trial version of Norton anti virus, I figured its 15 months free, i might as well use it. But the issue is, when i get up from the computer, every now and then a norton popup bubble will pop up and say "norton is running in the background"... (who freaking cares?) but it wont let my computer kick on the screen saver, thus not letting it go to sleep. I come down the next morning only to find it still running with an open desk top, only because of that stupid pop up... i have looked everywhere but dont see any option to turn if off...

Anyone know how to fix this? or am i just missing something??? :o

OK, Lets try this. I haven't yet had opportunity to test 2011 version myself. But I guess how the problem can be solved.

Go to Settings/Configurations (The names maybe not the same, as I am only guessing based on 2010 version)

Search for Option Called "Idle time Scan" or something like this.
And put it to "off". It will shut down background scan when idle. So after doing this you should consider Scheduled Full system scan or Manually scan full PC once a while yourself.

If this have't worked for you try this one.
Search for an option like "Idle time out" and put it to maximum time. for example 1 hour.
Then put your PC to sleep in For example 45 minutes.
This way your PC should go into sleep, before Norton idle time scan starts.

Hope it will help you :)

Hey how about a fully product, free forever that works better? http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

That MAY work better

More appropriate ;)

AV has a single purpose. That purpose is not to continually prove to you that it's worth paying for by scaring you into your next credit card authorization. In my book, MSSE it the perfect AV as it does just that -- it's job without scareware.

I am not going to start flame war. Or bring proofs why Norton better then MSE, or MSE better then Norton.

I am just saying that no one can claim that apples are better than oranges.
It only may be better for someone.

scaring you into your next credit card authorization.

We can bring this kinds of conspiracy theories to all AVs..

For example silly one: (I know that this is a lie. this is only sarcastic example. Don't take it seriously)
Conspiracy theory: Microsoft created MSE so it will not warn about anything, so user have image that Windows is THAT great and secure...

I know it's stupid but that's the same with thinking that all paid security products are scareware and only want to get your money :/
