Not enough disk space to upgrade install windows 7?

i have windows 7 home premium sp1 installed on my system with all the updates.however ,over time,some files have got corrupted so i have decided to do an in place upgrade which will repair the system files.
i have a dvd disc that is also windows 7 home premium sp1 dvd
many people have the same problem as me
but none of the answers in the forums seems to solve anybodys problem because it works for none of them or else there would have been atleast one positive reply,i have yet to see one.
its the same answer over and over again given by the professionals which actually doesent work.
im tryin to upgrade install windows 7 because i have some corrupted windows 7 system files
i can howveer boot into windows without problems
but the real problem is once i start the upgrade
and when i about to near the end,i get error message "not enougn disk space to install windows,try freeing up space and restart installtion"
actually i have 210gb remaining free space
on C.
isnt that more than enough space?
i have tried the following which were suggested on forums which didnt work.
1.i have set the service "virtual disk" to automatic and rebooted and still same problem.
i have also defragmented and checked the disc for errors.
nothing works

Hello Allan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this was for corrupted files, you might see if downloading and running the 64-bit (x64) System Update Readiness Tool for your same installed 64-bit Windows 7, restart the PC afterwards, and try the sfc /scannow command again may help to fix any corrupted system files.

If that doesn't help, then I would recommend a clean install instead for the best results.

Why don`t you back up your files and do a clean install, it`s the only way to fix it right. You have the Home Premium license key, so why not.

for me sfc scannow did not fix all the corrupt files.why does it show not enough disk space ND HOW TO PREVENT THAT

Do you have the default 100 MB System Reserved partition?

If so, did you or any ASUS program save anything to this partition? For example, restore points being saved to it. If so, then that's the partition that is low on space for this reason.

How to know if i have have 100mb free system reserved partition? I have an Asus laptop which i also think is an OEM version. I also found out that disk c is the active partition and has 500gb space out of.which 21gb of it is used as recovery partition with windows 7 factory state reinstall.both the recovery partition and c is marked as active and disk d is marked as logical.now shouldn't windows 7 in place upgrade or reinstall be straight forward? Cox if these issues wud be affecting windows install then Microsoft should have made it easier for people to install.basic common sense wud be to install windows 7 on c and any person wud make free space on c, so if we free up space on c there shudnt be further problems.if u have any solution then please do let me know

Check using the tutorial below to make sure that you only have system protection turned on (checked) for your C: drive. Uncheck any other listed drive if checked.

Yep i do know how to turn on and off the system protection.and yep it is turned on for both c and d.so u r teliin it shud be turned on only for c right? Yea ill do it.but what next? After doing that will it stop the not enough disk space error? Or if not,tell.me.the next step.

Yep, turn system protection off for all drives but C, then try doing a repair install again to see if it may have been the issue.

Before doing a repair install, I know you said you did a SFC scan, but did you do what I posted above to try and repair the component store to see if that will allow SFC to fix your corrupted files without having to do a repair install?

Oh admin.after following what u said sfc still cudnt fix some of the corrupt files.i even restarted the system after trying the readiness tool.I'm sure that the not sufficient disk space error needs some other fix.it doesent work from whatever solutions u have said.please investigate further into it.best thing to do is if the problem has been solved before correctly then u shud give a solution from such an event or else it is useless.u shud try to solve the issue first by trying urself

Please go ahead and upload your sfcdetails.txt from OPTION THREE in the SFC tutorial below to see what system files cannot be repaired. If they are not critical, and you are not having issues, then it may be fine to just ignore it. Otherwise, you may be looking at doing a factory recovery to fix this.

The insufficient disk space is most like from your System Reserved partition low on space as posted earlier, but it would not be recommended to mess with it more than what was posted earlier. Doing so could cause more harm than good.

I've been trying to help you avoid doing a factory recovery by seeing if the corrupted system files are worth having to use more drastic measures or if it's something that you can safely ignore.

Well its pliers. U r righr i guess Cox the recovery partition is marked as the primary partition while i was doing windows reinstall and the second partition of 400gb was marked as os,so i think that the recovery partition was creating problems.so we have no fix yet for the insufficient space thing until we delete the partition i guess.right now I'm doing a full reinstall.now i feel to take and throw my PC cozy i have to reconfigure everything again

The main reason why I'm doing all this reinstall is cozy the fps reduced in all my games but I'm sure that Itis not agraphics card problem Cox this GPS issue happened many times in the past and the only way to fix it was reinstalling windows.do u have any idea to that

FPS drops could be anything from your video driver to something running in the background.
