Recently received the not running genuine windows error. I got a similar error message about 18 months ago which was resolved, and a separate issue which required that I re-install windows about 6 months ago.

I've run chk dsk /c and sfc scannow scans.

Report below.

Lets see what can be fixed by the system.

1. Click Start
orb.png

2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Is Vistalizator installed on your system?

You have some fairly serious corruption present -

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

This will get rid of - or at least identify properly - two of the more serious errors, and may fix some of the ones I can see already.

Here's the list of errors from your log...

I was expecting only two problems with manifest files - we got four instead!

Code:
Unavailable repair files:
 winsxs\manifests\wow64_microsoft-windows-i..explorer-deployment_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.16421_none_ccba37fb200f8c74.manifest

I'll post a fix for them later - but I suspect that at least one will fail, and we'll have to go the long route.

back later.

I've uploaded a file - wkraa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder wkraa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

That's about what I expected - it almost certainly means that you have registry corruption in the form of a bitflip.

Let's see if it's in an easily-found place...

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Hmmm - not a Bitfilip after all, but what appears to be a totally incorrect registry entry.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands.

Code:
REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG DELETE HKLM\cast\DerivedData\Components\wow64_microsoft-windows-i..explorer-deployment_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.16421_none_ccba37fb200f8c74\S256H

REG UNLOAD HKLM COMPONENTS

.

So long as no error messages appeared,
Reboot, and then run another CheckSUR

If you get error messages, post back with the details!

When I enter the line

Code:

it says 'ERROR: The System was unable to find the specified registry key or value.'

If I put in the next line

Code:
REG ADD HKLM\cast\DerivedData\Components\wow64_microsoft-windows-i..explorer-deployment_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.16421_none_ccba37fb200f8c74 /v S256H /t REG_BINARY /D 189ba7d1986e4fbe983757d8408751f829f6b8771ff8e358f5bfa7a3996135c6

it says the parameter is incorrect.

I ran CheckSUR again anyway but still got

Code:
