Not seen in the Network View

Hi

I am running an 8 pc network (all on windows 7 with 4 on pro and the other 3 are home versions)

I have a file/media server running windows 7. I just upgraded from Windows Home Server to Windows 7 professional

I have set the workgroup name to the same on all pc's

I used to be able to browse the network from my computer and be able to see the server and all the other pc's.

I can no longer see the server in the network view. I can access the server by typing //server in the explorer but it still does not appear when I attempt to browse my network neighbourhood.

How can I get it to appear in the network view I am stuck as I have not had this issue before.

I believe that either Windows Firewall or your Antivirus/Firewall is stopping the machine from being visible to a net command. The two options would be to simply use a run command to access the machine (short cut is to hold down the windows key and press r), or disable the firewall on the machines you want visible. I personally recommend simply using the run command, but I'll tell you how to turn the firewall off. Please make sure you have AV installed, and understand you do so at your own risk.

To disable the firewall:
> Start
> Control Panel
> Windows Firewall
> Turn Windows Firewall On or Off (in the left hand pane)

If you are going to turn it off, I'd suggest doing so for just the type of network you're currently using.

Hi thanks for the reply but it was nothing to do with firewall or antivirus.

This was the problem, the server was selected as a work network and not a home network under set network location.

Quite simple and very easy to miss. Shame no one on here could help me.
