I am using nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 256 MB RAM on my home PC. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate RC and everything worked smoothly including Aero to the highest quality where drivers were from Windows Update.

Now, I got licensed Windows 7 Professional. When I update the driver from Windows Update everything works just fine until I shut down the PC and turn it on again. When I do that after OS finishes loading, screen suddenly goes blank. After like 2 minutes, system gives a blue screen and restarts. This time Windows successfully makes it to desktop saying that Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown. When the report is prepared it says something went wrong with the video card drivers. The same thing happens even if I install the latest drivers for Vista directly from nVIDIA website as there is no Windows 7 drivers for FX 5500.

Don't update drivers from Windows Update. They are not the most current drivers available. And, if you're having problems with a driver you need the most current version to ensure that any bugs have been worked out.

These 2 drivers need to be updated:
Code:
nvlddmkm.sys Tue Oct 10 01:44:34 2006
ac97via.sys Mon Nov 22 15:29:55 2004

Update the nvlddmkm.sys driver by getting the latest video drivers for Win7 from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Update the ac97via.sys driver by visiting the manufacturer of the sound card (or the system if it's a built in sound card) and get the latest Win7 drivers for it also. Post back if Win7 drivers aren't available.

Here's more info about the STOP 0x116 error: BSOD Index
Basically it's most likely to be one of 3 things:
- driver issues (yours are outdated)
- overheating issues (open the case and check to make sure the fan is working and you don't have dust all over it - but don't touch anything inside the case!!!)
- broken video card (test by trying another video card).

Here's a summary of the BSOD analysis':

Thank you very much for your fast reply. As you suggested, I checked the case and cleaned it with an air blower. In addition, I changed the graphics card with another one from my other PC and installed drivers for Vista as there are no drivers for Windows 7 for GeForce FX 5500. Now, everything works fine. Until now, I did not get any BSOD. Again, thank you very much for the help. I really appreciate it.
