O&O Defrag Drive Exclusion

I have a couple of partitions that I don't want touched by defragging, such as those that contain my backup images, and this might increase with some changes that I have in mind, to where I would want to exclude an entire drive. It is simple to exclude a file or folder, but I haven't found a way to exclude a drive or partition. For these reasons, I have limited defragging to only manual use, and haven't been able to use the automatic defragging features of the software. Is there a way to do this?

I could swear the Windows 7 defragmenter has a button on the lower left that lets you exclude any drive or partition with a drive letter. I am at work so I can't give you a screen shot, but if you want to exclude drives or partitions....I'm sure you can. You just press the button on the bottom of the defragmenter's UI and un-check them.

EDIT: I just realized you are talking about a program called O&O....sorry, I had never heard of it until now. I know nothing about it, but you can use Windows for this.

Thanks, but I really dislike the Windows defragger. So much so that I paid for a third party program to avoid it. So I shall continue to look for a way to make O&O behave as I want it to.

my roommate has o&o on his system. give me 10 to 20 minutes and i will check it out. i have used it myself in the past and i vaguely remember being able to exclude drives to be defragged. i only defrag c drive myself.

goto jobs and reports, add jobs. you will be able to setup your schedule the way you want it. though it does not have monthly like i like. there is no reason to do a weekly defrag.

If you're using the latest version of O&O Defrag (v12.x) you can Disable Monitoring of the Drive/Partition which will disable Auto-Defragmentation on the drives you chose not to monitor, but O&O will continue to monitor/auto-defrag the drives you still have "Monitoring" enabled for.

Example:

• Right click on the Drive you wish to "Disable Monitoring" for
• Un-Check "Monitoring"
• Taadaa!

Yes, I do have version 12, and was looking at this a bit earlier, but it appears that this is connected to the automatic settings, and when I tried to configure the One-Click wizard, it suddenly started analyzing all of the drives, without me having completed the wizard or applying the changes....including the drives that I don't want defragged (they weren't set to monitoring either).

I understand that analyzing is not the same as monitoring or defragging, but it made me stop what I was doing. I guess that I have to spend some time in the help section so that I can better understand.

You may have an abnormal install, in my opinion. I know for a fact that if/when you disable Monitoring on a Drive, everything pertaining to that drive becomes "Manually Controlled" rather than automatic.

I'm assuming you're running it as an Administrator? (I think it default opens as Admin, but you never know)

I'd simply recommend trying to re-install it, and also reconfiguring the Wizard.

You may be right about the installation, because I had monitoring turn itself on after disabling it on the drives also, but that was a while back and I don't remember all of the circumstances. I'm going to check this out on my secondary rig and see if it duplicates the behavior before deciding about the reinstallation.

o&o has had this problem since at least version 10. i have seen it. i do not know why it does this. i have had it where i click on c and went to defrag and it starts to do all of my drives.
