so ive been trying to OC my i7 3770k from 4.2 to 4.5. at 4.2GHz i had LLC set to Medium 25% and a 1.056V on full prime load. temps never touched 60C under normal fan profile. now at 4.5, im at medium LLC 25% and a 1.160V, and temps are hitting 72C under full prime load with cpu fan at 100%. im using a h80i 1 fan in push.... to me, this dosnt seem right. i swapped the thermal paste twice to see if it were true, and it is.... so whats going on here? is that temp normal?

Under full load those temps are not bad. Are you using turbo OC or straight OC?

turbo; cpu freq and voltage scales. but to get 72c, i have to have my fan at 100%

while gaming at norm everything at 4.5, im in the mid 50's to low 60's degrees playinng BF4 MP sometimes spiking to 65C

Still good temps mate. For daily or gaming 4.2 - 4.5 wont gain much. If you are trying benchmarks then higher clocks will help. Don't sweat it Patrick, 4.2 is a good OC and you will get good performance

4.5 is just for gaming and other high end tasks. for everyday, i have a power plan setup for 2.4. but in BF4, i noticed a HUGE difference between 4.2 and 4.5. where i would normally get 52FPS, im getting about 60+ or so... where i was getting 45fps, im now getting 55fps... so it did help a lot for me

just wanted to make sure thos temps were good for that voltage. i was expecting a difference in temps,but not 10C difference...

BF4 is a not a good program to test performance because of all the issues it has. Try a little boost on your gpu and see what that does for you.

GPU is maxed out. I'm at 1150MHz on the core. And no reason to go higher cause that would require more than stock voltage. And there is only a 2fps gain from 1150 to 1200

Interesting, try running your gpu at stock while gaming. Then look at the effect with frames and cpu temp. I'm a OCer like you, but for gaming with a good card stock settings still play awesome.

from stock 1070mhz to my OC 1150MHz (stock voltage) there is only a 5 fps difference. i have the fan on my cpu as an intake. it takes in air from the back o the case, so the GPU heat isn't affecting CPU temps. anyway, ill have to fully test tomorrow on Prime, but it seems 100% stable. no crashing or force closing programs.

Yupp. As low as it gets. May have to up it one more. But I see ppl getting 4.5 at 1.2v withe the same temps. That's y it bothered me.

IT all depends on the specific hardware Pat, Dude was kicking our butts with a stock Intel cooler. Some can OC to 4.8 at 1.2V, others need 1.4 or so.

Yup, I have two 3770Ks, one I've had to 5.2, just to brag, the other won't go more than 4.8.

I got it to 4.5 @ 1.160v... Just temp worried me... I'm too use to AMD lol.

I need a new case an new water cooler H80i ain't going to cut it this summer. Max Temp was 74c on hottest core with fan on normal.

digging up an old thread here....

after some testing i got stable at 4.5GHz fully

in prime 95, the temps hit ~75C @ ~1.2V. while gaming i seem to hit ~65C @ 1.216V. This is with an ambient temp of ~27C. How do you think these numbers are? do you guys think its safe for 24/7/365 usage? I game for hrs on end too.

Sounds Okay Patrick, especially for Prime. Volts are good on the lower end too. I don't start worrying till the CPU gets to 90C, I have Core Temp overheat protection set to shut down at 95C in one second.
