Odd DVD/video playback with HD5670

Hi all,

I bought an HD5670 a few weeks back. And just noticed something odd when I watch TV through Media Centre or play DVDs.

The image has a kind of pastel look, almost solarised (I think that's the effect), with large areas of colour being the same and very little definition/subtlety.

I previously had an nvidia 8500GT, and everything was fine, video-wise with that. The 5670 seems fine with graphics in games, and on windows in general but while watching videos it just seems odd.

I uninstalled the reinstalled the k lite codec pack that I've always had on my PC, but that seems to have made no difference.

Any suggestions??

ps I have the same 22" samsung 1050 monitor connected via DVI. It says screen is 32bpp and 1680 x 1050, which I sure is the same as I had it before!

Just checked and this is only happening in WMP and Media Centre. Works fine in Media Player Classic etc!

A bit of a pain as I use the PC to record and watch TV quite often.

It might be some odd error between the native codecs and the codecs from the k-lite pack. My only suggestion is to try another pack of codecs, especially made for the Windows 7 OS.
Shark007 - Windows 7 codecs
I've been using them since I installed my Windows 7 (with a HD5770 card) and everything works perfect. After installing just check the Shark 007 SUGGESTED settings box and everything should run fine. If you want to find more info about this pack you will find everything you need on the site.

I uninstalled the k lite pack and installed the shark codecs and now avi's etc work fine, but live TV, recorded TV and DVDs are still the same poor quality!

So any other advice, I'd love to hear. But thanks for clearing up some of the issues!

I have no idea how to further help you, but if you don't find any solution here, you could ask on the Shark007 forums as well. The pack creator is kind of a pro in handling this kind of media problems.
