Office 2010 Professional Plus Updates

Easier said than done, I wouldn't know what I am looking for also, do I open them is the DOS window, if so how do I do that

I agree. Its a mess. You'll need to open them in notepad.

This just looks like all the installation stuff such as all the error/installation messages you could get, not the actual one for an installation I have tried, but then I haven't got a clue what I'm looking for

Perhaps you could try this update location:
Update Center - Office, Office Servers, Related Products TechNet

Do you have automatic updates enabled?

If auto updates are enabled and should this not work for you, I think I would be tempted to contact the supplier for their advice.

Help!!!

I have now spent what seems to have been Months trying to get these updates that I keep being told about to install. I have trawled the Web, looked at all the fixes and checked registry entries, nothing works.

To be honest I am at a complete loss, everything else I have updates, but this 2010...no chance.

I am UK based and the software was purchased for my daughter while she was at Uni from Software4Students, it does say not to be sold outside Europe.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

There are no regional restrictions in Office 2010, though pricing can vary among regions hence the label not to be sold outside etc. If that were the case, OP couldnt have installed and activated Office.

Just when I thought I was fixed I get an error pop up that says "An error occurred while running detection"...sheesh

Well 4 hours on the phone to Microsoft Support.....and even they can't get it to update, they went through everything, they took control of my pc and still no joy. They have now gone away to have a look and call me back

Paulks, I am very sorry to hear that.

I have requested other experienced members opinion. I hope that someone might have suggestions.

Reset Windows Updates Components by running the fixit tool and check if that helps resolve the issue.

Paulks, I am sure that you realise that we, at Seven Forums, are not or affiliated with MS.

You will see above that zigzag3143 has made a suggestion. Try it and post back.

If we can assist we will, but ultimately MS really need to resolve your problem. Have you tried contacting them again since the promise to call you back?

If Zigzag3143's suggestion doesn't help, though it should... I've got a long shot....question. In your op you state it is a system and/or software for, or belonging to, your daughter. Could it be that you have multiple users and that you have been mixing user accounts in which these updates hve been tried?
You wouldn't expect it to function differently but I have seen examples of different reactions in what we thought were identical admin user priviliges on two diff normal users.

One way to circumvent that and be sure is to enable a full admin user login and, using the advise and links given earlier, retry the install + update of Office.

Persist through Microsoft Support.

I have used this facility via "Remote Desktop" with an Office problem.
After the initial details were taken the Technician appointed was polite, efficient, fast & my problem was corrected.
From my experience I would recommend you persist.
