Solved Okay Gamers; I need some information.

I'm seeing a lot of gamers with BSOD and many of them are using Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have never used Ultimate and I'm not a gamer,so my questions are; Why do many gamers use Ultimate. Is Ultimate a better Windows 7 for gaming?

I personally don't see why Ultimate would be better for games but then again I'm not a gamer.

It's because of RAM limitations and features Ultimate has to offer (Unless they bootlegged it..You know?)

And According to my research, an average gamer would have 4-8GB of RAM installed in their computer. 16 GB is for those who will game and do video editing. In some cases however, they'd get 32GB so that's why they'll purchase the Ultimate version of Windows 7. Also, some people that has 4-8GB of RAM in their computer would rather get that version for future RAM upgrades.

I've noticed just by the posts on the forums that Ultimate is more common in Europe and the UK. Maybe that has to do with pricing, or a sales strategy by MS.

Or maybe they are just pirated versions. Hard to say...

Personally, I don't see a difference between Ultimate and Pro when it comes to playing games, and other than the memory cap on Home Premium, there should be no difference there, too.

Besides the language packs and some business perks ultimate is just more bloated than pro.
But pirates love ultimate I would image for the language perks more than anything.

So I think it's fare to say; Ultimate is not a better operating system for gamers.
Four to eight GB of ram is more than enough for games.
Windows 7 Home Premium and above will work the same for gaming.

I do play a game; Chess but I don't think that makes me a gamer. Both of my system handle Chess quite well.

Sure, but you want to have enough to spare to run a comfortably sized RAMdisk!

OT: I went with Pro because Home Premium doesn't have Remote Desktop "server" support. I saw no benefit in "upgrading" to ultimate.

I went with Ultimate more so because a friend used to work for Microsoft and hooked me up with it but the most RAM I have had on my gaming rigs is16 GBs. I now only use 8 GBs.

Just to add: Some users may have been using a bootlegged cut version of Windows 7 Ultimate (Windows sounds removed). It's known to cause problems.

There are very few differences between Ultimate and Pro. The ones that do exist are not used by the majority of people. For most of us, Pro and Ultimate are the same thing. I think some people use Ultimate for a status symbol, or because they can get an illegal copy. I have it and use it because I got it for free. I can assure you I would never pay for it, Pro would be fine. However, there are differences between Home Premium and Pro/Ultimate that matter.

Don't worry Jack. your computer could run any game out there and then some. Try it, you'll like it.

You are correct Jack, Ultimate is no better then any other version for gaming.

Your chess game will run fine with Pro

16gb is more than enough IMO and don't need a ton of memory for a couple VM's i would say sweet spot with 16GB on Home premium

Never saw a need to get the more expensive versions if i am not running a business

Also, some people get the Ultimate edition instead because their friends or relatives suggested that it would be better if they have the Ultimate installed. My Uncle did that to me and I wasn't convinced.

There is no one reason why gamers often choose the Ultimate edition. In some cases it is due to the belief that this edition will perform better. It is reasonable to believe that any OS called "Ultimate" will perform better than others. And compared to what is paid for a high end gaming computer the difference between the Pro and Ultimate editions is relatively minor.
