Okay to upgrade to 10 with unresolved problems in 7?

Multiple questions here, but the thread title has a character limit.

I've been unsuccessfully struggling to fix a problem I've been having with "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes." (Fifteen minutes to boot up, grr!) Now that the Windows 10 upgrade is available, I'm hoping that upgrading will make all of that moot. However, I don't know if I'll be able to upgrade to 10 if my 7 is not fully updated. I am considering re-installing 7 if necessary before I upgrade, and I was wondering how to do that without making it a clean re-install.

When I first installed 7, I made a partition that put my system on C:\ and (most of) my data on D:\ because I was told that's how to safeguard my data in the event of a system re-install. However, I've never worked with partitions like this before, so I don't know how to proceed.

Another question I have is that because I have a Bulldozer-based processor, I am unable to run an XP emulator. However, I still have my original XP installation disc that came with my old laptop. Would I be able to install 32-bit XP on my hard drive alongside 64-bit 10? Would that compromise my existing data partition? Would the two systems not be able to see each other?

Thank you,
raen

Personally I wouldn't upgrade until issues were corrected
10 has enough to do already :)

Okay. That answers a fraction of my questions.

Personally, I would avoid upgrading to Win10 at this time. I made the mistake of doing that on an HP laptop running Win7, and after a LONG wait on HP support, was told they are being swamped by folks whose PCs have been trashed by the Win10 upgrade. They are advising their customers to NOT upgrade at this time.

I'm struggling to get Win7 install media for the laptop so I can do a Repair Install.

Do you have a system backup image such as Macrium from before updating to Win 10 ?
If you do have a backup image, it doesn't restore Win 7 successfully ?

Hi,
Did the first fraction get corrected = windows update errors ?
http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

I would not install a 32 bit os as dual boot with a 64 bit system or vise verses
I doubt that can happen anyway

I would not install or upgrade an install with x-p on another partition either
I'd put each install on it's own hdd or ssd then the bit difference makes no difference

Once you have the updating issue resolved I'd move to a few free scanners
Which you can jump right to the scanners if you wish corruption could be why the update errors are occurring :/

Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/316404-instant-savings-app.html
On the BleepingComputer site use the button that looks like this,
adwcleaner-button.JPG

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
See this tutorial on how to download and run Malwarebytes,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/338716-malwarebytes-anti-malware-free.html
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,

Please Do Not clean/ Delete or Remove Any detections before posting the scan results first before review especially Malwarebytes,
Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware Detection & Removal Software
SAS is safe to remove anything it finds ;)
SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,
Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner

My Test Box is a triple boot with all OS's on the same storage device (SSD/HD).
It is and has been a combination of XP/Win7/Win8.x, mixed 32 bit and 64 bit.
It's been working reliably for me for many years.
It is an older Legacy BIOS only motherboard. UEFI may work differently ?
The important thing is older OS's should be installed first, newest OS installed last.
Installing XP after Win 7 is installed could cause issues, XP doesn't understand newer OS boot code.
If you install XP last, you would probably have to fix boot problems.

I haven't tried installing Win 10 on this box yet, so i don't know if that may have new surprises for me.
I plan to update the Win 7 32 bit to Win 10 64 bit, but i'm waiting a while for Win 10 to be more stable.
