Old Timers got me again. There is a link in this forum to a file that cleans all the "ghosts" out of the device manager. I dld it and put the exe in sys 32 so it would be in the path. Now I can't remember the name. Can someone refresh my memory?

Assuming you did not add too many exe files that same day, you could always use Windows Search to find it.

All search examples below would search for any file with extension EXE added (modified) on a certain date or date range and most probably would help you to find your EXE.

If you did it today, yesterday or earlier this week, browse to System32 folder and type one of the following search criteria:

2014-06-28_13h31_32.png
Code:
ext:exe modified:today
-- OR --

2014-06-28_13h35_15.png
Code:
ext:exe modified:yesterday
-- OR --

2014-06-28_13h53_02.png
Code:
ext:exe modified:thisweek

If it is was earlier than this week but you remember the date, search using it:

2014-06-28_13h33_26.png
Code:
ext:exe modified:08/06/2014

Notice that the date must be given using your computers default date format, for me it is DD/MM/YYYY but for you your default US format. In this search I was searching any EXE files modified (added) on 8th of June 2014.

If you don't remember the exact date but can be fairly sure about the date range, use it:

2014-06-28_13h46_30.png
Code:
ext:exe modified:10/06/2014 .. 13/06/2014

In this search I was searching any EXE files modified (added) between 10th and 13th of June 2014, both dates included. Notice the syntax, a space after start date followed by two dots, followed by a space and finally the end date.

I Tried some of those to no avail, But they are good suggestions, it is just me. I solved it by finding another file called "Ghostbusters". I cleaned the device tree manually to start with before I found the file. It seems to work the jury is still out. take a look at it and pass judgement. If you will.
