On-line Full Screen Video Sound Distortion

Hi Everyone,

I've gone to Microsoft for help with this issue, been to several tech forums, and even sent a request for help to Adobe Flash Player for help but I have had absolutely NO luck.

Basically this is my problem...I am a student and I just upgraded my Gateway laptop to Windows 7 Home Premium x64-bit for that $30 deal. Everything is running perfectly except my on-line videos.

Every single time I click on "full screen" to maximize the video size I start having sound distortion after about 30 or 40 seconds. I've checked and it's not my browser (I've tried it with Firefox and IE). I went to upgrade my sound driver but I got a message saying that my driver is already up-to-date. I also thought that the problem might be the flash player but I checked on that too and it was also up-to-date.

The best way that I can describe the distortion is that I have this sound that makes all of the noise in the video sound like everything is cracking up under water. Hope that makes sense. Oh, and to make things even worse...I don't have this problem on YouTube. I don't know if YouTube formats their videos in a certain way but I can put videos on Full Screen without the sound distortion. If you'd like an example of the type of videos I'm talking about go to MSN.com and look at the tiny little video that they always have on the left side titled "Video Highlights".

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I really don't know what to do. I have a small bit of understanding of computers but I'm not that tech savvy.

We can fix this, no problem.

Go into the bios and disable any cpu throttling. You can Google for your specific motherboard about what the setting may be called.

The throttling may also be occuring from software that you have starting with Windows. Give that a check.

Set high performance mode for power settings, within Windows.

Let us know how it goes.

Also, install the latest video driver from the manufacturer's website of your graphics solution. For example - NVIDIA, ATI, Intel.

If you tell me which motherboard you have, I may have some driver suggestions. Use mainboard tab of CPU-Z to find out.

I went into the BIOS but wasn't able to find much and I don't know anything about tweeking things in there. All I found was a little part that said my CPU Speed was 1800 MHz but it didn't allow me to make any changes to that. There was nothing about CPU Throttling or anything related to it in any of the menu options. I went all over my computer and couldn't find anything about what type of Motherboard I have. I found a program online called "ADA32" and they say that running that program will provide me with information about what Motherboard I have...in addition to a few other things. Is it alright if I run it? Most people are saying it's safe but I don't trust most people online.

To provide you with some additional information, I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS graphics card with 512MB discrete video memory. As far as my processor goes...I have an Intel Core Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz each.

I changed the power settings on my laptop to "High Performance" but that hasn't made a difference.

Please let me know if you need any additional information or what you would like me to do next. Thanks for your help so far. I'm out of luck with no help from any of the other places where I asked for help.

Also, uninstall any utilities in Windows that you have from Gateway.

I searched for CPU-Z and even entered that in the "Run" prompt but I got nothing in the search and in the "Run" prompt I got a message saying:

"Windows cannot find 'CPU-Z'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

I went online to see if I could find the specs on a website that sells my laptop but none of the websites that sold it had the motherboard info.

I'll keep trying whatever you need...I have absolutely nothing other than my computer and this problem is really hurtful.

Problem fixed!!!

I've been searching forum after forum for an answer to my problem. I found this one guy who was having a similar problem. His sound didn't distort but instead his videos froze up when he went into "full-screen" mode. I just wanted to come back here and post the solution that has worked for me...if anyone else has this problem then I recommend trying this VERY EASY solution...here are the steps:

1.) Right-click on the flash video that you are playing and then Left-click on "Settings"...you will have a tiny little box that will pop up in front of you.

2.) At the bottom of this little box there are going to be several icons (I have 5 of them on my computer so I don't know if you will also have that many). Anyhow...Left-click on the one at the far left side. It should be called "Display" and the icon on my computer shows as a monitor with a red-tipped paint brush over it.

3.) Once you get there you should see a box with these words next to it: "Enable hardware acceleration". If you are having this problem then you most likely have this box already checked...make sure that you REMOVE any check mark in that box.

That solved the problem for me...I used to have it unchecked before (at least I thought I did...) but somehow the new settings with the Firefox 3.6 Beta 4 that I downloaded must have automatically checked that box for me.

I hope this helps other people...I can finally watch videos online...and if you are like me (someone without a TV) then this can be extremely helpful.

Yeah I love Google and I use it religiously...I just have finals next week and I got so stressed out over my classes that I haven't been thinking straight when it's been about anything other than my classes.
