on startup error message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"

Hi Everyone,

My computer started to freeze up a lot and now I receive the following error message on startup: "Reboot and Select proper Boot device. Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press any key."

It is a Windows XP OS.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks!

The boot sector on the hard-drive could be corrupted.

Thank you. What can I do to fix it?

Load your Windows XP installation CD, and then restart the computer, this should give you option of pressing any enter to start the CD. If this is not the case, then enter your BIOS by pressing F2 before the system has fully booted, and change the boot priority order which is found under the BOOT section of the BIOS menu. Make the CD-ROM the top of the list.

Save the settings and then restart the computer, the CD should now load, whereby you will need to press F8 when a blue screen loads. Press R which should load the Recovery Console, and then choose the Startup Repair option.

Hope this helps,

Harry

Thank you so very much for your reply, Harry!
Also your website is very informative.

I will have to locate the installation CD and see if this works.

Thank you again for taking the time to help me out. :)
