Solved One user slow and the other fast

I have an HP desktop with 7 Home Prem. 64bit. 8G Ram 7200 HDD. When I log on as Administrator, it is very quick to start up to the desktop. When I log on to user (standard user) it takes at least 10 times longer to get to the desktop. Never ran into this. By the way, it is not my PC and the user does not know the Admin password. CPU and RAM are not maxing out. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

You say this is not your PC, so how do you log on as Administrator if the user does not know the Admin password?.

A possible reason for the the User setting is taking longer to get to the Desktop, could be due to the number of programs that they have to get started during start up.

Click the Start Button & in the Search box type msconfig & when that opens select the Start Up tab & see how many items are listed there. Generally you can untick all but the anti virus one.

A family member knows the Admin password but the user does not. The user only logs on with their standard account. I checked msconfig startup tab and the only thing checked is Avast AV. The user had half a screen of documents on the desktop. I moved them to my documents. Problem still exist.

If you have no need to keep this Users account you might want to delete it. This Forum tutorial provides methods for you to look through, as there are some for a single computer or a computer on a group or a domain.

I made a new account and copied the old user files to the new user. The new user logs on just fine. Deleted the old. Everything good now. Thanks for your help.
