OP ID?

currently there seems no OP identification in threads except you read the first post - how about making OP postings better identifiable in long running threads?

IMO the system is fine. Check this image:


Under the title you see the name of the OP. If you click the title (2), you are redirected to his / her original post i.e. the first post of the thread. If you click the small yellow sign (1) in beginning of the title, you are redirected to first unread post assuming you have already visited this thread, or to the first post if the thread is new to you. Clicking the last poster (3) brings you to the last post of the thread.

I can not see how there could be more information?

I think he means that as you read down through the threads, sometimes it is hard to see who actually started the thread in the first place, without going back to the first page to see the first post.

Sorry I am totally uninformed about the administration here..

To make the OP identifiable in a long running thread can be as simple as changing the username font colour/bold etc something. It would help alot.

I'd say that the #1 from Kari's post is a problem point, I never knew you could go to the first unread post by clicking there.

once you are subscribed to a bunch of threads, and got the notifications in your inbox, you go directly into the thread and here starts the problem - who was the OP?

I like the idea and can do it, but I'll have to run some tests on the dev site to see if it causes any extra overhead on the db.

Take your time, z3r, once it is in place it would definitely help to better monitor OP's progress inside a long thread.

once you are subscribed to a bunch of threads, and got the notifications in your inbox, you go directly into the thread and here starts the problem - who was the OP?

I tend to go the long way round, OK I get the notice in my inbox of threads I'm involved in but to me that's just an indication there have been replies I don't usually follow any up at that point.

When login in here I start at the top and tend to do a quick visit to the sub forums I'm interested in and look to see what has been posted, if it's one I'm involved in I'll probably go to the last post that was made, if there have been a lot of posts since I was last in here I'd go back a few pages until I was where I'd left off then start reading from there.

OK probably not the most time efficient method but it works for me and that way I don't miss anything, I end up at the bottom of the list of sub forums at some point in time, but I've probably learned something along the way and maybe I've been able to help someone as well on the journey.

The title Topic Starter shows under the OP's name and posts in the entire thread....
