Hello there,

before you send me to use search button, that was the first thing I did.

Anyway what's going on - I have Windows 7 installed and I want to use Opera as my default browser. All the file associations, protocols and whatever are set as default for Opera yet it doesn't work. Every time I click on a link in some IM it simply opens it in IE. Also I am on admin account with full access to everything yet no results.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Jrcho,

I'm not sure I understand your question, but "IF" you're asking Opera to be the default "Windows" browser, that's not possible.

However Opera can be set as the default web browser for the "internet" and should open anytime you click an internet link.

When you set Opera as the default browser, make sure the "Tell me if Internet Explores is not the default web browser" box is un-checked in Internet Experlorer. It's under tools, Internet Options, Programs.

Hope this helps.

PS. Whats IM?

Opera will work as default web browser and mail client under W7 if required to be, I've been using it thus for a couple of months with no issues and no browser crashes... :D

I've been testing Opera for the past week and I think it's faster and more stable than either IE or Firefox.

My problem is that I have years of passwords stored in Firefox and getting them into Opera is a "one at at time" long process. :(

Well that's kind of my point. It asked me to set Opera as default browser and I confirmed I want it like that yet it didn't work. As I said before, I am positive I have it all set as default for Opera. Check screenshot below. Maybe it has something to do with it being greyed out?

The image concerns Operas file associations.

You'll find the control regards it being default browser elsewhere...

Try 'uninstalling' Internet Explorer, then reset Opera as default browser...

Control panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows features on or off

I can only speak as I find Opera under W7 myself, and when I set it as default it does exactly what I've asked... :)

You are a wise person, good sir. This worked. Now let's see if it persists even when I enable IE again. But even if it won't work, I still know how to do it next time. :3

Thanks a lot everyone. I really appreciate it. One has all of a sudden faith in humanity;
