Solved Opera vs G Chrome?

Hi,

How do you rate Opera vs Chrome on W7, on my old lap, is Opera any better?

I use Opera & have done so for many years. I prefer it & I like the Speed Dial feature.

The latest version of Opera is version 38, which updated today & it now has an ad blocker feature, which I have instigated & it seems to speed up website access a lot, as well as not having ads competing with what you are looking at.

Download it, install it & give it a try & see if you like it. You can usually import bookmarks & passwords etc. from your other browser.

Both are fine, I use Chrome, it`s lightning fast. It`s nice to add a theme too, but I just stick with black.

Also if you like Opera "Classic" (non-chrome) it's been updated to v12.18 with security protocols all fixed.

I like Opera. In addition to the points made above, it also has desktop email, so you can ditch Windows Live Mail if you want. It also works great on Linux, although no email feature.

If you like Opera (Chrome) great! Suggest testing the portable version of 12.18 if you really want to try it. Personally I prefer it.

1. Just read that Opera's new version has come out....would give it a try.

2. Does it eat more resources vs Chrome?

3. Is it available for Androids too, and like Chrome could it be synced using Opera link?

4. Adding a theme to Chrome saw it for the 1st time, very nice.

Personally, Opera vs Chrome I preffer Chrome. Its faster than Opera. I used Opera a while and I didnt get that satisfied...
I would try firefox... But since this thread is about chromium based...

Since the OP has a 32bit OS and less then 4GB of usable RAM, I would pick a browser based on resource consumption rather than website rendering speeds.


Chrome (32bit or 64bit) crashes if one of the instances consumes more than 4GB of RAM. For those that want to test that, visit this website A continuous feed of stellar photos we find online tagged #pixlr and hold down the END key. Watch the RAM climb and Chrome crash. IE11 and Pale Moon handle that website without crashing.

Chrome also does not like transitioning between proxy and no proxy. IE and Pale Moon handle the transition much smoother.

I encounter "waiting for available socket..." with Chrome over a VPN connection. I don't get that in IE or Pale Moon.

Interesting. I don't have Chrome but do have SRWare Iron. I tried visiting that site using Iron and although memory usage did indeed climb - it wouldn't crash.

I should point out that I have CleanMem running at all times. Also tested All Browsers Memory Zip but it appears not to offer any advantages when CleanMem is also being used.

This is what I see (with or without ABP installed):



ABP is the only extension installed. I see this crash on several different computers.

It took Chrome a minute to crash. I reached posts from 7 or 8 months ago and then crashed. Your screenshot shows posts from 12 ago and not even a GB of RAM. Nice. It does not matter if I go slow (press/release the PAGE DOWN key to view one image/post at a time) or fast (holding down the END key).

I mostly use Chrome for sites that need flash. I don't have Flash installed for IE or Pale Moon.

I see what you mean. I suppose that my test isn't valid. I assumed that Iron would behave pretty much like Chrome!
