Gainward is one of the 'small' companies which had a bit of a shaky start but has really been up on the up-and-up. By all accounts today their cards have nothing wrong with them, they're just not particularly high-end. Gainward don't do much to push the reference card and as such you get (in my opinion) a bit of a bland and 'vanilla' product. None of the pizazz you find in manufacturers such as Asus or XFX.
If budget is an issue I'd recommend you go one step up and look at Sapphires, or even MSI. MSI can be a little more pricey though, depending on which particular cards you look at.
