no problem.. only thing tho, if you have a router, and a pc, technically you have a "network".... and by your typing if i understand correctly, you have a pc and a laptop, right? thats your network.

True I have entwork with PC, router and mobile phone (no laptop).

but anyhow, did you try to take out the checkmark in the picture i displayed ealier? I guess where it is, is the confusion you may have had. Two ways to get to this, i'll give you another way.

Control panel/ network and sharing center / manage wireless networks/

then highlight your network by left clicking once, the right clilck it, properties, and thats where that window i posted will be, hit the connections tab, take out the checkmark. Reboot, then manually connect to your network and let me know if that clears the asterix.

I think that this may be to do with Windows 7 not recognising my adapter (WPN111) as Windows7 compatible. The driver installed is windows Vista compatible according to MS website. Netgear only updated driver for Vista in Nov '08.

I can't find MS compatible hardware website for windows7 - does it exist yet?

Connection fine - no drop outs, even after computer wake-up after PC sleeps.

YOu have to really/actually try installing in every possible compatibility mode. Use the Troubleshoot TO troubleshoot the actual setup.exe. If there are problems, you can go to Action Center after awhile and click on maintenance, then "check for solutions". YOu can customize this by excluding different apps that you know work just fine from checking/reporting any problems/solutions. Hopefully send in anything that "looks" like it has anything to do with Microsoft, your network (framework), and any driver/setup.exe problems. Usually within a few days there is something sent back. Give them as much of an in-depth explanation (see below), other times they want/need more info, or sometimes they say there is no known fix at this time.

If you get the chance to where you can send in the feedback, mention your adapter/model/version, as much detail as you can give them. List the *Hardware IDs and *Compatible Ids, *Config Flags - all of this info is available under *driver details tab* for that adapter driver.

Orange Asterik On Network Icon

This issue just started with me in last couple days. Previously I did not have an organge asterik over my netork icon in my systray. I've connected and disconnected and still get it.

This is an old thread but. Do you by any chance have any Adobe products (Photoshop/creative suite etc) installed?

It installs a local DNS service called Bonjour that wreaks havok with several adapters/drivers and gives the symptoms you indicate. Search for Bonjour on the site here for instructions for removing it if you have installed Photoshop or something else from adobe (not flash though)

I just used the ms help page, when it asked if problem/info was sorted I said not. Then wrote my problem in box supplied and sent to ms. Just worked sometime after that.
Presume it's a bug in w7, which ms solved after my message.

Orange asterik on my wireless network icon in systray

I do have adobe products installed. However, they've been installed for quite a while (at least 3 months). This issue just popped up just a few days ago (less than a week).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless drivers and reconnected. I've deselected the connect automatically to this network. Neither of them seem to work.

The problem is annoying, but it is not keeping me from accessing my network or the internet. It's just wierd.
