list of problems I have using outlook 2010 beta at current, this is more of an information post than anything.

1 - The popup window for when recieving emails isn't working, it is set in the options and the preview mode works but not the live mode.
2 - I made a custom ribbon bar with all my functions I use on one bar, but every so often it reverts to the home bar.

Annoyances as below

1 - I can no longer set to send using one email address account but spoof the from to address to another account. A bit on more what I mean. Lets say I have 2 email accounts, chrisatme.com and chrisatyou.com, the chrisatme.com email server goes down however I want the email to appear to come from chrisatme.com, in outlook 2003 I would send using chrisatyou.com but set the from box to chrisatme.com. The person recieving the email would see something like this "email recieved from chrisatyou.com on behalf of chrisatme.com".
2 - This one a problem in outlook 2003 as well, Is no way to backup and restore email accounts and passwords in an easy manner. A 3rd party app which I guess microsoft made deals with allows you to backup accounts but not passwords, there is no way to export passwords at all. This was possible in outlook 2000 and has been removed in all newer versions. Very annoying when dozens of email accounts.
3 - setting up email accounts was already time consuming but now in outlook 2010 I have to click an extra time to bypass the dumbed down setup wizard microsoft added.
4 - it just seems slower than outlook 2003, I am running the 64bit version which I expected to be faster but it isn't. I hope this is only due to it been a beta and the final release will be faster.
5 - the test email accounts feature has been dumbed down from outlook 2003, is now less useful.
6 - the cursor is way too fat and I cant find a way to make it thinner.
7 - imap handing is still veyr flaky.
8 - helo headers are still not conforming to RFC standards.

I am afraid I am likely to try out thunderbird now, was considering it when using outlook 2003 but wanted to try out outlook 2010 first.

discovered another problem as well.

I have a rule that moves specific emails to another folder, each of these mails has a duplicate in the junk folder. I double checked the rule and automated junk filtering is disabled so it has to be a bug.

Hi
For Outlook 2002, 3, and 7 you can use pfbackup.exe - downloadable from MS to backup Outlook folders.
When you install it it gets incorporated into the menu -- you can set your backup ANYWHERE including Network drives.

I've used it loads of times.

Doesn't work in Outlook 2010 however -- I've also found too many bugs in Outlook 2010 to continue using it.

Cheers
jimbo

to give an update, the problem with duplicate emails in junk folder was described wrong. They not duplicates, it seems the automatic junk filtering is simply filtering my emails when I have it turned off (and microsoft's junk filter is very unreliable in my experience), I am only still using outlook 2010 out of lack of time to migrate to thunderbird or back to outlook 2003, I dont know if I will use outlook 2007 because if I understand right the ribbon in that is not as customiseable as in 2010, in 2010 the default ribbon layout was very unproductive for me, and even now with a custom ribbon it is very slow for me to get to specific functions which were much quicker in outlook 2003.
