Solved Outlook 2010 constantly updating cached messages

Hi all. I'm running Outlook 2010 on the same Windows 7 system I've been using for the past two years without any real problems. Several weeks ago I began having problems with Outlook. The program opens in my gmail inbox (IMAP) and updates cached messages without any apparent problem. But then when I click on an email, it takes several minutes to open the message. Sometimes longer. When I click on a different message it starts updating cached messages again. Sometimes it gets stuck. Sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be getting gradually worse. Since last weekend I haven't been able to send messages. They get stuck in my outbox. For a while the program wouldn't respond for several minutes. That hasn't happened for about a week.

Last month I installed a new mesh router/network. About six weeks ago I installed Kaspersky Total Security (I'd been using Avast for many years). Three weeks ago I installed ProTools with a new audio driver. Besides this, nothing has changed.

What I've attempted: disabled Kaspersky Outlook add-in. Repaired Outlook. Reinstalled Outlook.

I appreciate any help.

Hello AaronM, when you reinstalled outlook, had you also cleared the Outlook cache (RoamCache folder)?

It didn't occur to me to clear the cache. I'll remember this for future reference. Thanks. It appears what was causing the problem was my Avast Browser. I switched from Avast virus/firewall to Kaspersky. They suggested removing the browser. Looks that it's working.
