Solved Outlook 2010 new mail sound

I cannot get the new mail notification to work with Outlook 2010(Win7 x64); it plays when I test it, but that is it. Startup/shutdown sounds play ok. Come to think of it, not sure if the icon changes in the taskbar - need to watch for that. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks, I went through that. I also get the icon change when mail arrives, just to sound notification.

I know I'm stating the obvious once again, but, are your speakers on?

Also, right click on the desktop and choose "Personalize":


Then click on "sounds" in the lower right of the window:


And check your setting for "New mail notification":


Are you using a customized theme?

I have checked everything...no sound for email notification playing.

I have exactly the same problem with Windows 7 64 bits SP1, outlook 2010 - no sound at all on incoming messages. I am interfacing Outlook to 2 mail accounts using IMAP protocol. Is Microsoft going to give us a workaround for this?

No workaround required - sound works perfectly for me (Outlook2010 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1)

it does not help - it was already configured as such:

(and i have checked Outlook 2010 mail settings, my sound is active (icon on at the bottom of the desktop), and I have also checked the mail arrived sound in the control panel)(besides, the sound "mail arrived" works well with thunderbird and windows live mail)...

I don't know what else could be the issue......is it a recent installation? How about updates?

I have the latest updates running and functional (W7, MS Office). Is it possible the culprit would come from my previous Office Pro 2007 install? is there a register value that I could check and tweak?

Not sure if there is any relevance, but are you using POP3 or IMAP accounts?

That appears to be the problem - IMAP.

Just to throw another idea into the mix

I don't rely on Outlook for email alerts but use an open source tray app to check my accounts.

this allows me to check mail on "resource challenged" systems with out the overhead of running outlook all the time

the application I use is old but works with win7 without any issues
