In Windows Mail on my old computer I got used to inserting a picture in the body of the email instead of as a file attachment.

Today I discovered that inserting a picture in the body of the email (Outlook 2010) results in it arriving at its destination as winmail.dat and can't be opened by the recipient.

What's up with dat? (Pun intended :D)

Works when I send it as a file attachment but I prefer putting pictures in with the text of the email.

How are you inserting the picture into the body of the email? It could be some sort of file corruption. You could try doing a repair of your office suite.

Repair or remove Office 2010 - Project - Office.com

Thanks.

I did the repair and rebooted.

No change.

I open a new email, type text, put the cursor where I want the picture, click insert, click picture, select a picture (jpg) from my files, the picture appears in the body of my email, click send, go to my yahoo email account, open the new email and the picture is once again winmail.dat and doesn't open. I'm sure it's not yahoo because I sent a picture earlier to my friend and he doesn't use yahoo email and had the same problem.

Is there something in the settings or preferences that I should be checking. I'm new to Outlook these last two weeks and a lot of it is much different than what I'm used to.
