Output on both Analog & Digital at same time?

Win7 broke what worked in XP... output to both Analog & Digital at the same time. I need this for my HTPC solution or I go back to XP.

Is there a way to get this working using specific drivers, apps, or hacks?

I am also trying to get both digital and analog sound out at the same time. I have just installed the 2.47 driver from Realtek and still cannot get this to happen. Can you provide explicit directions? Thanks.

ok i also had struggled for this... but its relatively easy...
first u have to make sure your sound card supports dual streams...
my motherboard is the DX58SO do its sound driver is realtek AC889
intel made it possible from these versions onwards.. i think 880 onwards..
so inly if your card supports this u get an option in "sound manager".. above the "folder like icon" at the upper right part of the screen window. "device advanced settings"
upon clickin this.. under playback devices.. u get the following option..
"make front and rear output devices playback two different streams simultaneously"
after clickin on this it separates your streams and u get two icons appearin "HD audio 2nd output" and "speakers" the 1st is the front panel and 2nd is the back panel...

after youve managed to do this.. find an appropriate application to make use of this..
there are very few.. one of them which can use these streams in "media player classic home cinema"
View -> options -> output ->direct show audio -> select output stream..(2nd audio output or speakers) then restart the player and then it outputs the audio to the one u selected.. other applications like windows media player, vlc, power dvd, all push their streams to the default output.

Your post is useful, but this is not what I am looking for.

I'm trying to output the SAME stream through digital output (to home cinema) and Analog output (to other speakers through 3.5 mm port) simultaneously.

The thing is I have a home cinema in one room, and analog speakers in other room. And I'm trying to output some song, or any audio stream to home cinema with digital, and speakers with analog output.

This was possible on XP. Moreover it was the default. The stream was ALWAYS output through both analog and digital port, unless the stream was compressed 5.1 (DTS or AC3) when you could only output through digital out.

This was possible on XP.

Might have been possible in XP, but not in Windows 7 due to the re-written audio stack. The new audio only allows for one output (or in input) at a time, be it analogue or digital. The only way to use both at once is if the program being used to play the media has the option to select which output to use instead of the Windows default (Winamp for example allow this), only thing even with this is that it will still only play on one of the outputs available.

It was definitely possible in XP, I used it thousands of times at this same PC. I can output different streams at the same time (Lets say, I put some song to play in WMP12 through SPDIF, and I put other song in MPCHC and play it through 3.5mm speakers.)

Is there any tweak, hack or anything that would allow me to play something in one player and output through digital and analog at the same time? Because as I can see this is due to the software blockade in 7 and has nothing to do with hardware part.

I solved the problem with different output to the front panel
on my ASUS P5P43TD.

All you need to do is to go to Onboard Devices Configuration in BIOS
settings and change Front Panel Type from HD Audio to AC97

After restarting you have now Tab called HD Audio 2nd output
in Realtek Audio Manager (but keep Speakers tab as default output).

If you can't see that Tab, go to Device Advanced Settings and change it to
Make Front and Rear output devices playback two different
audio streams simultaneously.

If you choose the other option in Advanced, you will have only
one stream but from both outputs - front and rear (Yes! It's possible!)

And now you have multiple choice for output in popular applications
such as audio- and video-players, where you can change output to
Speakers or to HD Audio 2nd output.
As a result my Foobar2000 (audio) and MPC (video) are playing
onto different outputs as I'm typing this post.

For some games you can choose the output too (Black Ops) in game
Sound options but in some of them you cannot (MW II)
BTW if you don't set anything as Default in Realtek Audio Manager
you won't have any sound in MW II and some other games.
