so i tried upping FSB to 350 to get a 3.017 no go raised voltage still nothing raised Voltage more and more to 1.30000 nothing so tomorrow im gana go back to the 2.97 and try to get the ram from 840 closer to 1066 and stay with the 2.975 i know this is gana sound nuts but i see a deference so much that i stop watched it 2.83 with ram at 1066 boot is a total of just under 21 seconds 2.975 with the ram at 840 total of just over 16 seconds

I'm running the Q9550 and I set my FSB speed to 400 and turned off the 0.5x multiplier value so that it is 8.0 instead of 8.5. That means, 400 x 8.0 = 3,200mhz, with no voltage increases on the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1 and I'm doing it on stock cooling with almost no increase in temps from stock. This keeps my DDR2-800 RAM running at 1:1 with the CPU and everything is just fine. I didn't even try to go any higher....so not sure on potential.

I run at about 34 celcius at idle and get around 60 at full load.

Boot up Time = ~30sec from Dead off Init RAID, then ~9.877-12.454sec for windows, as per B
what stepping is it? if its an E0 your in luck , i got my mates up tp 4gig (4037) stable 1.4v , but you'll need custom cooling its a cracking cpu :D

Cooling is always the concern when you go a lot higher. For me, I just as soon stick with the stock cooling and that is why I run with a very minor overclock on my Q9550 ( I went from 2.83ghz to 3.20).

I got my Q9550(2.83Ghz) at the time for $209 and the Q9650 (3.0Ghz) was $329. So, rather than spend the extra $120...I simply put a minor overclock on my CPU...and am now 200Mhz faster than the Q9650 without any extra cooling or without any voltages changes. And that freed up $120 which I could use on other components which I also needed at the time.

When it comes to Quad core processors 4 Ghz + is the real deal as far as overclocking goes. The Q9650 can easily achieve this but getting it completely 100 percent Prime Blend stable for 10+
hours can be a real chore on just about any board.

I managed 4.275 GHz Prime Blend stable with mine, the heat was in check but the required voltages, both chipset and CPU were a bit high for my taste.

The 4.05Ghz setting with 1800QDR using the 4:3 divider and 9X 450 FSB with my old fashioned yet highly functional GSkill pc9600 DDR2 memory not even overclocked at 1200MHz seems to be just right. No need to go i7 with a system this fast. ;)

With better cooling the Q9550 can easily and safely go to 3.8Ghz but it does help to get Ram that can keep up with the overclock and get away from the 2:1 divider which isn't always the way to go.

id like to see your stats and how you set up your bios's

yes my CPU is an E0 at least thats what it says on box

i would say im running above stock cooling - im still air cooled but with a coolmaster v-8 69.69 CFM fan and the mas of cooler i think im good i did do Prime 95 for almost 20 hours on this computer at the OC speed of 3.2 and i kept hitting 50 C i didnt like the little fire symbol that speedfan puts up so i stopped it

i got this right when i7 where coming out my buddy tried to get me into a i7 but it would have been 30.00 more and that was a deal breaker for new PC hell the woman bitched to high haven when she found out i spent 600.00 on all the parts LOL

Check out my profile i have photos about rig in there

50 C is not really all that hot for the Q9550. The thermal spec from Intel says 71.4C for this processor. Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550 - SLB8V

Mine usually runs around 60 when I am maxed out and it's within spec and I haven't had any issues. I run in mid to low 30's at idle.

In looking at your pics in your profile...you need a different case.

  • With the side off, your cooling is negatively impacted. Your fans work better when they channel the air through the case...and that gets screwed up with the side off. But since your cooler is too big, you cannot put the side back on
  • Your wiring is choking up quite a bit of room in the case and impeding air flow. If you look at the pic in my sig block, you will see that I have much more room, my power supply is isolated off by itself in the bottom of the case and I have very few wires interfering with air flow.
