My husband is finally (sorta) moving from his palm. He has chosen the ipaq 111. We have outlook 2010 32 bit running on the 64 bit win 7 as i think is the norm. I need to export his palm contacts, into outlook 2010 i suppose, and from there sync with the ipaq. Does that sound right?

If so, how do I get the palm contacts and memos to outlook 2010? The palm Tungsten E2 is still working and I have the palm desktop on an XP machine since I can't get the desktop software to play nice with windows 7.

My ability to screw up outlook has been quite extraordinary for someone who used to consider herself pretty competent and I am wary of making my husband's life any more difficult than it already is.

BTW, the outlook is set up as pop3.

Thanks,

Deirdre Karambelas

I should mention that I am aware that I can export the contacts and memo fields from the palm OS as csv files, but I am unclear if I have to edit headers from within excel (a type of program i think i once used when it was called whatever visicalc was for the Trash80, lol.) . I don't mind doing whatever work is involved. I don't mind paying for software to do it for me. Hell, I wouldn't mind paying for someone else who is an outlook genius to do it for me. I just need it done

I am the only person responsible for keeping our small law practice afloat when it comes to technology and i recently managed to lose 3 months of his emails by accidentally setting up the new outlook 2010 as imap and.... but i digress and that story makes me feel sickish  so I will stop and just beg for help on the transfer of the palm contacts.

Thanks

BTW, the outlook is (now) set up as pop3.

Thanks,

Thanks very much for your advice. I had seen those pages but had two concerns. The first is that the advice was on one of those eHow pages. which I never really know how to trust, and it talks about the calendar rather than the contacts. I'm not sure why it tells me to export as one file format and then another, as my version of Palm Desktop will already export as a csv.

As you say, the second suggestion does refer to an old version of outlook. If that is still the way to do it, I will be willing to put in the work. I just hate having done all that only to find that the headers are different in 2010 than in 2007 of outlook.

Sorry to be a pain and not ungrateful at all

Has anyone had any success using the Chapura software?

Do you have a backup and restore process for the Palm?

If so you can always restore if you feel unhappy about the transfer. :)

The Palm is dying and so needs to be replaced. Sorry, don't mean to be a problem nay-sayer. I was just hoping that someone would have some distant memory of getting palm data into outlook and that from there I could sync it with the ipaq, also now getting to be an older device.

I have the palm desktop on an XP machine and of course the new outlook on a Win7 machine. I have so little experience with excel..... but then nothing ventured nothing learned, right? I thank you for your help.

Sorry that I am not altogether familiar with your problem.

However, You might already have come across this 'relevant' thread on the internet:
Palm to Ipaq (Pocket PC)

If we can can assist in any way, please ask. :)
