panasonic uj-822b and windows 7

here is the issue sense i upgraded to windows 7 i can no longer burn dvd's. i looked in the device manager and it has now been labeled as a cd drive and not dvd . This has also effected nero as well. I have been searching forums for days with no answers to this at all. it seems rather hopeless at this point i guess. To think this all started with the quest to create a win 7 rescue disk so i could fix my desktop. . . .

I wish this was the easy matter of the fact. But i have searched for firmware for this and there is none for this multi drive. As i understand its all supposed to be native to windows now and controlled by the generic microsoft driver? The only drivers that i have found for this from lenovo will not install for this. I have tried just about everything i have come accross so far now. i removed the upper and lower filters. i ran the self help "dvd error code 19" repair tool. I'm just starting to think that im doomed to never be able to burn from my laptop again under vista/win 7 and linux as well. I never had any problems with the drive until i put win 7 on here. It worked flawlessly on win xp. In fact i used it a few min before i had started to install windows 7 on there :S

To be honest I had quite a bit of trouble finding any information on that optical drive. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but there are plenty of external DVD burners that are certified Compatible with Windows 7. If that's a consideration for you, I can point you in the right direction... I just don't want to seem spammy by posting unsolicited Microsoft links

After a week of frustration in trying to coax it to work i gave up (screw burning stuff) and bought a flash jump drive. It was so painless to setup thanks to the very nice utility provided for this purpose Windows 7 USB creator tool, Microsoft bootable disc tool So i copied my iso to it and away i went.

Personally at this point i will just recommend that if peoples computers will boot from usb then they should use this process to install there media that that otherwise required them to burn something to a disk. With these new netbooks today a usb jump drive is a must because of the lack of a internal cd/dvd drive.
