partitioning

I have windows 7 with 300Gb of harddrive, I shrink it and thus create another partition, now here is the problem ....I cannot allocate this partition (132.57Gb)..It says :- "there is not enough space available on disk to complete this operation.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong kind people

Reduce it slightly - lets say to 130GBs. Its funny, but sometimes Disk management tries to allocate more space than it has shrunk. Read all the numbers after the shrink and you may see it.
If that does not work, use this program BEST FREE Partition Manager Software for Windows supports all 32-bit & 64 bit Windows No-server OS. It is far more flexible than Disk Management.

Hi WHS , the first suggestion did not work, so I download that program and tried it and it said :-

No free MBR slots

what ever that means

If you could post a picture of your Disk Management, we may be able to find out what this message means. It may have something to do with the active partitions.

hello there whs , I have just read that you can only have 4 primary partitions (mbr slots ) so is it possible to change to logical partition for OS ........cause at the moment there is the Os and 3 recovery partitions all Primary

Create the new partition as an extended partition. You can then create additional logical drives inside that extended partition. The top paragraph at the link below will give you a working definition of the different types of partitions, what their limits are and how they relate:

If the OS partition contains the MBR (if it is the active partition), it must be a primary. If, however, you have the little 100MB partition as active partition, then it need not be a primary and can be a logical. If you post a picture of your Disk Management, I can tell you what's best to do.

If he has already 4 primaries, he cannot do that - won't work. He will end up with dynamics which are a mess.

Hiya guys , you both rock
I have it sorted , I shrunk the C drive and created a 132Gb extended drive and then created 2 logical drives and everything is now working fine.
I have learnt alot from this forum and off google , plus the download and sites you suggested....many thanks.....
