I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on Acer Ferrari 200 (pre-installed). There will always be times where after waking the notebook from sleep, the password will not get recognised. I am very sure password is correct.
The occurance after a number of sleeps and wakes varies. And the only way to get in again is to hard reset. My account is admin privilege and the only account in the notebook.
I have checked the security event log but there is not denied messages.

I have the latest Zonealarm Extreme 9 installed and Bit Defender disabled. All recommended Windows 7 patches installed.

Any advise. Thanks ahead

I have uninstalled the Zonealarm Extreme Security 9.1 that is compatible with 64-bit and has not encountered any issue for 1 full day. I will update further if this does not solve the problem, else you can assume that Zonealarm is the cause.
I have now turn to Microsoft Security Essential.

Some of these a/v firewall software, are actually worse than what they are trying to protect us from.

Windows 7 password not recognized

Hello,
Same problem here. Windows 7 Password is suddenly not recognized after laptop sleeps. Hard restart resolves the problem, however, it will then reoccur 2/3 of the time if the computer sleeps again.

Disabling and reenabling password protection for the account (Administrator) does not resolve the problem. I have no new security or firewall software running that I suspect could be involved. I am not using ZoneAlarm so it is not the culprit as prior posters suspected in their cases.

Did anyone ever find a resolution to this issue? I am concerned that my Administrator account may be corrupted and am worried I will become locked out altogether eventually.

Hi Rich,

Appreciate your response and I am (as I type) in the process of making a password recovery disk already. I also already have a second profile with Administrator privileges.

I may very well end up following your recommendation to delete the problematic account, however, am resisting that at present, as I will lose many settings, etc, that are not established or accessible under the second Administrator account. Any solutions that don't involve completely abandoning the present problematic Administrator account?

Type device manager in search. Once there look for any yellow markers, indicating problem with cards or drivers.

"richc46 Type device manager in search. Once there look for any yellow markers, indicating problem with cards or drivers."

Only device indicating any problems is my networked wireless printer (whose driver has always been slightly quirky on my laptop with Windows 7). No problems indicated elsewhere, however, obviously the only time I can check this is when I am able to login to windows (obviously when the problem is not manifesting).

I initially assumed that my account must be corrupted, however, the fact that a reboot solves the problem (at least temporarily) seems to refute that. I have no clue where to start to try and resolve this. I'm waiting to see if the problem manifests with any of the other Administrator accounts to see if it is restricted to this one account. Thanks for all the suggestions though! Keep them coming folks. They are all appreciated.

I would give this advice as the solution for most problems, but in your case you may transfer the problem from the old to the new account.
but
In search type windows easy transfer, everything except programs can be transferred to a finger drive and then to a new account of OS
Give it a try as a test. Even desktop is transferred, all settings etc.

The last time I had this issue was caused by Zonealarm. After ZA has finished learning mode, use will be asked to switch to some optional mode, this is where the problem starts. I let it continue to learn indefinitely and not problem after that.

Thanks Rich. I'll give that a try and see if the problem migrates too or not. Worth a try.
