Hi Folks, will a Password reset disk work on a win10 64bit pc that was made on another pc with the same specs?

A password reset disk will only work on the computer it was created and with the same account that created it. Anything more than that and it would be a serious security hole.

Thanks for your reply. I thought it might be possible to use one from another pc where NO password was used.

You can buy a "Password Reset Tool" that you download, then run to create a bootable CD.
With that, you can boot up a Password protected PC, then remove the password.
It works on virtually EVERY PC, with any MS OS.

Every PC Tech worth his salt, will have such a disk, to assist those who have lost their PC password.

Once a password is "Removed" the PC can be booted up without a password, and then a new password can be created, if so desired.

Personally, I don't use passwords on my PC's, and I encourage my customers to do likewise.

Good Luck,
TM

Hi TM, the laptop in question did have a password but was set to start without it using netplwiz. The owner asked me to reinstate using a password, which I did only to find he had forgotten his password.
Luckily, I have a Wondershare Liveboot 2012 CD which might do it according to what I found.

Many years ago I used this to get into my Bro's Comp. LOL It worked like a charm. That's one reason why I encrypt my computers. Either with the now defunct, but audited Truecrypt or Veracrypt.

I think that program is also included in Hiren's Boot CD.

To clone an encrypted computer use Clonezilla which uses Linux's DD what ever it is and chose expert and sector by sector. I have a Parted Magic live CD and it has Clonezilla on it. The live CD has IDed both my external USB drives for cloning in a live boot environment.

Last time I looked Kyhi's rescue disk had password reset stuff on - Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk Solved - Windows 10 Forums

Just pop in on a USB stick using Rufus and boot the PC from it to use the tools.
Hi John, I have bad news, I don't need any more info re a password reset. The laptop in question is an HP Pavilion running Win10 model unknown. I spent a few hours today trying to get it to boot from Lineboot 2012 CD and failed miserably.
Thanks to all who replied on a very sensitive subject.
This thread can be deleted if needs be.

Since I've been getting into PC's with a lost password, for years, I'm just curious...
you said that the PC won't boot from that one CD. Well, how about other Bootable CD's?
Did you try booting from a "Boot Menu"?
Is the BIOS set to boot first from a CD?
Have you ever booted that PC from a bootable Flash Drive?

These are all questions I'd have to answer for myself if I were working on that PC.

I have a little Acer Aspire, Mini PC, that absolutely refuses to boot from any Flash Drive, in any port. ???

So on that PC, I'm forced to boot it up from a CD/DVD/DL, if I want to install an OS, or run my backup software.

Cheers mate!

Hi TechnoMage, I know the cd works as it has been booted on another pc.
I don't and have never had a bootable Flash Drive.
I can access the BIOS and will make a copy of the settings to help me determine if its Legacy or UEFI.

The rescue disk in post #7 is an ISO, you can make a bootable usb from that.
Just re read the link, no mention of clearing forgotten password or maybe you seen it?
