Hi,

I thought this would be an easy fix but after 3 hours of trying solutions from the 'net I'm no further on...

My father has forgotton his PC password for an old Asus Ee PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. He was the only user.and there is no original disk, recovery disk or password reset disk. I have the Windows 7 home premium sticker with the product key.

The 'net suggests trying to get to the cmd prompt (where you can reset / bypass the password) via safe mode but that just takes you to the logon screen which needs a password.

I do have an old laptop with windows 7 installed but from what I can understand I cannot create a recovery / password reset disk on this PC which will work in my fathers.

There has to be a way round this, what am I missing?

In addition:

If you reveal the exact model of eepc, we might be able to point you recovery media, or find out is there is a hidden recovery partition.
for example Asus EeePC 1005PE

It could be quite important for future use.

Guys,

Thank you for the responses.
I have tried to access the built in administrator however it does not come up when booting in safe mode (to be fair the article says this may be the case). The other options given require access to the cmd prompt which I cannot get to. However I did find the option going through the threads to create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc one one computer and to use on another, so this is what I’ll do.

I suspect the configuration of my PC is pretty locked down, as even the F8 key on boot does not work, unless you 1st use F2 to boot menu, then when you F10 out the F8 key works.

Thanks again for your guidance, I’ll try the repair disk option later today

If its just data you need there are loads of linux or win pe rescue disk which you can boot from to just copy data off to usb or other

OK,

So my other Windows 7 PC is 64 bit and the EeeBox EB1501 is 32 bit.

However, no matter I found and downloaded an iso 32 bit repair disk file, burnt a CD and hooray - got to the repair screen and then the command prompt.

So I then started the process given in the link above using method 2 (as I have no way of getting the enableadmin.exe file saved to the desktop). I get as far as step 6 but then get the following error:

Cannot Load X:\Windows\System32\config\SAM: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

iFlaco in the original thread also had this issue but I could not see / understand the fix for it.

UPDATE - FIXED!! - I'd forgotten to navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config in step 4 so was looking at X:....., anyway all sorted now so thanks very much for the guidance!!

Regards Simon
