Lately I have noticed an FPS drop with my PC, I am noticing this in videos and in games. When friends of mine view the same videos they don't have this problem. Here is an example of a video that isn't smooth for me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi3HiCTQNc8

For me, as the character walks, the trees seem to have a shimmering effect, making them appear slightly blurry, this is easier to see when the character jumps. Other people that I have asked to watch this video tell me that it appears smooth.

I was wondering what could cause this change in FPS, I have recently purchased a new GPU (a gtx 770) and would hate to think that it could be my new GPU that is causing this issue. My monitor is quite old, is it possible that an old monitor could be causing this issue?

What drivers do you have installed for the GPU? And did you completely uninstall all other drivers and components for the previous GPU before you installed it?

I have the latest drivers installed from the Nvidia site, and yes I did uninstall all my previous drivers before installing. Does the video appear in any way 'choppy' or unsmooth to you?

UPDATE:

I just decided to run a GPU test using 'ALLBenchmark Catzilla' and recieved this error just as the test was finishing.

I ran the the test again after and didn't get the error, could this error be in any way related to my FPS drops?

thanks,

I've had to watch the video on my iPhone as it's blocked at work and, while it's very hard to tell watching a small, pixelated You Tube video on a small screen, I'd say it looks OK. Have you actually monitored your framerates while playing games or is it just that you've noticed your video looks 'odd'?

To monitor FPS download MSI Afterburner.

:ar: MSI Afterburner

Run Afterburner and minimise it, this should drop it to your Notification Area. Then run your game in windowed mode and monitor your FPS while you're playing.

I very much doubt you're getting FPS drops with a GTX770, especially with the game you linked. I don't know what it is but it's not going to be taxing your GPU all that much. The error you got is driver related, what version of the drivers are you running?

Is that game you were playing hosted locally or on the net? Same with the videos, are they locally hosted or net hosted?
