PC Intermittently Locking Up

I have a PC that I use mainly to backup my various computers in my house.

Over the last few weeks, it has been intermittently locking up - sort of. When I can no longer remote into the PC, I can usually physically login. After I login, sometimes I can open new programs, but usually it just freezes. At that point, I have to manually reboot the system and then everything works fine for a period.

When the lockups started, at first, they were very infrequent, maybe once every couple of weeks. Now they've progressed to happening daily or even more often.

It doesn't blue screen. I don't see any telltale events in the event log. It just (sort of) locks up.

At this point I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction for troubleshooting and/or things to try.

Did you backup this pc with a system image ?
