I just rebooted my homebuilt PC after getting a windows update notice. The computer will not load past the splash screen for the mobo, or maybe it's the bios splash, not sure. I have tried turning it off, unplugging it, it just sits on that screen. Pushing the menu F keys does nothing. Any idea why this is happening?

I can't remember but I think I may need a legacy keyboard to push keys at this point.

If the updates were actually installed, it's possible that they may have caused the current problem. Can you get into Safe Mode? If yes, I'd suggest uninstalling those updates by using a Restore Point. Hopefully that will return your machine to a good working condition. If no restore point is available I'd manually uninstall the updates and see if that fixes things.

If you want to reinstall the updates I suggest just a few at a time. Reboot after installing each group to make sure the computer is working. Then install the next group, and so on. If you find that your computer stops working you'll know which group to uninstall. Then install one at a time rebooting after each one. It's a slower process but usually results in a cleaner install of updates.

If it turns out not to be an update problem, one of the Forum experts prepared this troubleshooting guide:

Turned out it was some USB plug causing the problem. I unplugged them all and it rebooted.

Don't stop now. Plug in one at a time and reboot and find which one is causing the problem. If it was my computer that is what I would do.
