PC randomly restarts for the last 2 weeks

So, about 2 weeks ago I got an email from my ISP that said they were switching from CA internet security to McAfee. I removed CA and installed McAfee. Two days later, my PC restarted while I was watching a movie. No BSOD, no warning, just a restart. When it comes back up I get the "Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. It has done it randomly ever since. I can be surfing the web or playing a game or watching a movie. It doesnt happen during any specific activity. I can have several things running or just one thing. I dont get it.

So, since I despise McAfee anyway, I uninstalled it and got AVG for now. But, about 20 minutes after I did that, it restarted again. I dont get it. I read the post instructions and did what it said to do, hopefully correctly. So, hopefully someone can tell me what the deal is and how to fix it. Ive never had any issues out of this PC that I didnt cause and fix right away until I switched antivirus programs.

Virtually all of these were related to your DIrectX. McAfee is still installed and loading,

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

Are you very very very sure it was an email coming from ISP and not a mail from hacker??? Where did you get mcafee from?

It was my ISP. I have time warner and I went to their website to get McAfee. I didn't follow any links, went the old fashioned way, typed in the address.

Not a big fan of MSE. Used it before and still got viruses. Im gonna have to suck it up and pay for a new copy of CA. I love that company.

I have cpuid and the hwmonitor. My cpu stays between 20 and 35 degrees celsius. It does show my gpu runs around 55. I'll check it out and see if I can cool that thing down. The whole PC just got dusted yesterday.

And, if my DirectX is causing the issue, what do I do about that if I get the graphics card to cool down and it continues to happen?
