Ok... This one is new in build 7201. Whenever I switch my monitor off, the entire system restarts. This happens every time.

I did have nVidia driver problems with the older builds, but I could always revert to the default driver. However this time, the default driver was already giving me issues, periodically going into BSOD. I decided to download the latest beta from nVidia hoping it would at least solve the random BSOD.

Well... it did. But it gives me a the issue I mention in the subject.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm no beginner at this, so please don't take me as one. Afterall, I build my own machines, component by component. But for the sake of simplicity, it is connected via a DVI-B connector with an independent power cable to the wall socket.

It seems my issue might be with the nVidia driver that has been pushed out in recent months. but I was hoping for a workaround.

Isn't that a feature with some new monitors? Check the manual or menus for your monitor...

yes yes, I'm using the latest beta driver from nVidia. I think it was released over the weekend.

Problem with the Vista driver is , it doesn't really perform well. it has quite a few glitches.

id try a few drivers in between if it worked with earlier builds of 7 i think one of them will perform the way you want, if no then id put some duct tape over that power button

well, I have been trying to find out which version of the driver the previous builds were using for nVidia cards. this little glitch is a major irritation because I like to keep my PC on, but my power-hungry monitor off.

Not everything was designed to be hot-swappable. If W7 sees the monitor (or devices therein) suddenly vanishing, it's likely causing the power-down as a security measure.
