PC to monitor correct cable?
My pc is currently connected to my 32" samsung TV using a cable like this
http://www.konecable.com/ZenCart/images/hdmitodvi.jpg
There are two HDMI ins on the TV, one slot has written next to it 'dvi'. I use this slot and it gives me the best picture. If I use the normal HDMI in i get crappy picture, so I'm assuming the one i use is a special HDMI in for pc use.
Anyway...to my problem
I am buying a new monitor (downsizing) but the monitor just has a normal HDMI in, will this give me crappy picture like if I was using my normal HDMI in on my TV?
The new monitor has DVI in too, so would it be best to get a dvi to dvi cable and just do it that way?
Its a bit of minefield all these different connections .
Thanks and any help help is appreciated

HDMI on a monitor will be miles better than HDMI on a TV when coming from a PC as a rule. You should be fine with a standard HDMI cable.

Don`t know why you are getting a difference when you plug into either hdmi input on your tv, that is odd.
I use a dvi to hdmi cable on my Sony and it looks fine using any port.

Yea its odd how one does not work as well, I even tried altering the gpu settings to make it work. Since your sony one works though it must be a tv specific thing to have a special dvi-HDMI in port at the back. Thanks for your help though!

I do actually know quite a few people who've used TVs instead of monitors and said the picture quality is poor in comparison. My backup rig is in my kids' room through a JVC HD Ready TV, and even at 720p it looks bloody awful.

Well mate if the OP has crappy service via HDMI alone then there is something wrong with that port or the TV full stop.
Myself and if were me if I was suing DVI I would just use a DVI- DVI cable no point in using the HDMI and I am just wondering if anything is being played from the computer to the TC+V how does say sound - audio get through and vice versa if you are recording from the TV then you would only be getting graphics and no audio again the point is......

Yes you are correct, It was just that the my TV does not have a DVI in, so I used DVI to HDMI cable to connect my computer. When I get a new monitor I was just checking that I don't have to buy a DVI to DVI cable and I can still connect it via DVI to HDMI. But yes there will be no audio from it, I use external speaker from the audio jack.

You don`t have to buy a dvi cable, it will come with the monitor, all monitors come with a dvi and a vga cable.

Don`t know why you are getting a difference when you plug into either hdmi input on your tv, that is odd.
I use a dvi to hdmi cable on my Sony and it looks fine using any port.
I do actually know quite a few people who've used TVs instead of monitors and said the picture quality is poor in comparison. My backup rig is in my kids' room through a JVC HD Ready TV, and even at 720p it looks bloody awful.
Yep, a tv will never look as good as a pc monitor because of the pixel size difference, but playing a game or watching a movie on the hdtv from the pc, it should look just fine.
