Solved PC to PC via Bluetooth

I have a win7 desktop PC and a win8.1 tablet -- both have bluetooth capability and both work fine with bluetooth headsets/keyboards/mouse & speakers. I notice on either PC the other PC is recognized. I've seen that you can connect between the PC's via bluetooth, but I can't get it to work.

I've checked and connect via bluetooth is enabled. However, as I try to pair, I get a question something like "is this the code" which refers to a six digit number. I started trying the numbers in question and got through twelve of them with no luck.

Is there a way to find the actual number (I don't see it on the documentation for the win7 bluetooth adapter or the built-in bluetooth on the tablet)? Or do I just have to go through all the suggested pass codes until one works?

Thanks,
Jerry

Just tried this with my Win 8.1 laptop and Win 8.1 tablet. When pairing, both devices showed the same code and I just needed to verify that it was the correct code by clicking Yes on both devices. Didn't need to type any numbers.

Once paired, you can send a file by selecting Receive a File on target device, then Send a File on source device which will allow you to browse and select file(s) to transfer, and they'll be transferred. You will then be asked for a location for where to save the files on the target device.

I also tried this from my Win 7 netbook and my Win 8.1 tablet and it worked exactly the same way.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I've now gone through 20 codes on each and none match but I see each as an available bluetooth device and they are only a few feet apart.

So are you saying when you attempt to pair, each device shows a different code?

You don't click pair from each device do you? You only initiate pairing from one of the devices. For instance my laptop saw the tablet as available and ready to pair and the tablet saw the laptop as available and ready to pair. I told the laptop to pair with the tablet, a code then appeared on the laptop and the tablet saying "Is this the correct code?" with Yes & No buttons. I clicked Yes on the laptop and Yes on the tablet because both displayed the same code. The code is used to make sure you are pairing with the device you think you are.

The only way I could see that the codes wouldn't match would be if there was another Bluetooth device in the vicinity that thought you were trying to pair with it.

There could be, and probably are, several other bluetooth devices in the area since I'm in a condo. However, I can watch from my desktop when I turn the tablet on, and it appears in the screen with my tablet name on it. So I click pair and it asks the question about the number it presents and if I say Yes", it tries to connect but eventually says that code does not work. Same in reverse, tablet to pc. In fact, after twenty different number, not one number even repeats from earlier -- all the desktop number are unique and same for the tablet.

I'm still not clear, do you see the prompt with the code on BOTH devices while pairing? You have to confirm on both devices that the code is correct.

No, I bring up the bluetooth devices screen on each computer and each shows the other computer and has a ready to pair message. I select one or the other and get a number and asked if this is correct. How would I know? Is there somewhere I can reveal the passcode? But even if I say yes, it still says the code is wrong. Either direction. Twenty times on each computer or forty tries. I'm thinking I'm seeing a random code.

When I initiated pairing from my laptop, the code popped up on my laptop's screen and a notification appeared on the tablet saying a device wants to pair, tap here to continue or something similar. When I tapped on the notification, the code popped up on the tablet. I then clicked Yes on both to verify that they both were displaying the same code.

It seems as if you are saying that you are only clicking Yes on 1 device, not both.

Nothing pops up on the other device.

Nevermind..... I finally found the problem. The tablet Bluetooth wasn't enabled for discovery but the desktop was. Thanks for all your help.
