Solved PC to TV through HDMI cable, PC refuses to detect TV

Hi everyone. I've Google searched everything I can on this, and I can't seemto find anything pertaining to my situation. From everything I have read, it should be as easy as "plug in HDMI cable, select output on TV, done." Well, it isn't that simple...

I have plugged the HDMI cable into my PC and routed it to my TV (Sony 32 inch 1080p LCD Bravia.) On the nVidia control panel, I go to Set Up Multiple Displays. Not a thing I do here gets my computer to see the TV, at all. I try to force detection, and nothing.

It works okay if I simply take the VGA connector from my monitor and put it into the TV. That works fine. I want to do this over HDMI so I can duplicate the displays, so that I don't need to constantly change the cable back and forth (so I can surf the net on my monitor, but when I want to play a game, I can do that on my TV.)

I'm at the end of my rope with this. Can someone figure this thing out?

You need to have the TV on set to HDMI

While the tv is set use the pc to detect the settings

It has be to on and on the HDMI channel for it to work

After the card has seen the tv and reconizes it a profile will be created

Also make sure it is in the first Hdmi not the second

After you have established a connection as long you dont put the system into sleep mode it will continue to show

The connection can be broken by a restart but..... this will make the bravia the main LCD because the card will reconize a bigger resolution

I changed it to HDMI 1 and it still doesn't detect anything. I've tried two TV's and two HDMI cables already.

Check if the TV may require a firmware update, some do prove to require it.

How would I even begin to do that? To my understanding firmware updates are downloaded through the internet and this isn't an internet connected TV... lol. I have no idea where to start doing that.

First make sure that the video card detects the PC, by unplugging the 22 inch monitor.
Connect the HDMI output from the PC to the HDMI input of the TV.
Check your TV and see if you have it hooked up to the primary HDMI input.
Even if you don't, you can switch inputs with your remote to get the correct one.

Yes you can also try unconnecting and re connecting TV first then Monitor second

Because no matter what the TV will be the Primary due to aspect ratio and resolution

He made a good point if it is a a Newer Tv might require some special finagaling to make it work but usualy Tv should be ready to go

Some newer ones, yes. Some even have a USB port for firmware flashing. But equipment such as the hugely popular range of Humax TV's/FTA tuner boxes, and others too, all rely on transmitted updates

yup i have a usb port on my tv as well for flashing and a sd slot to add media

It is amazing how the Basic Tv Black & white to color now to flat Hi def I seen all sides Kids don't know what they have compared to back then

I was just looking up the specs on my Tv it is almost 3 years old bought it for my wife when the kid was born

got it for 475.00 us been running strong The Vizio E370VA Review. Is it worth buying? not to get off topic of the op

Well when I try to "detect monitors" in the control panel, it always says "another display not detected".

A thought though: If I connected a VGA cable with one input into the computer and two outputs to computer monitors, would that work? Both the monitor and TV are 1080p devices.

edit: My TV also has one USB port, so I can update the firmware through that.

If that were possible nobody would be buying multi-port graphics cards...

so if I want to do this I've got to figure out how to do it through HDMI, eh? Why can't anything ever just be that easy? lol. Well at any rate it always said "another display not detected" even though there is really only one way to connect a cable: PC to TV... lol. I've tried having the TV on and rebooting the computer to try to get it to start up with TV detection (which it never does even though it is checked).

There have been so many issues with TV's which are supposed to work from computers, but which either fail to do so outright, or fail to display POST data at boot if used as a monitor, or are pernicious about which graphics cards they will play nicely with, that if I were buying one I'd want the salesman to demonstrate it worked!

The thing is VGA works flawlessly. I just don't want to have to move the cable all the time (although I will if I have to.) If I could get a double-ended VGA cable and have that work it would be perfect and I wouldn't need to futz around with this stuff.
