Hello,

I've recently reformatted my machine from windows 7 ultimate, no upgrade or downgrade, just straight format so i could have a clean image to backup to my external drive. I have a partition that holds all of my music, videos, etc. (My D: drive)

In my D drive some files and folders are accessible without issues. Others, however, i cannot open, delete, or anything. I've tried to change the permissions by right clicking > Security > then selecting my current administrator ( i have only 1 ) and clicking apply, and also choosing the option for sub folders, etc. The problems persists.

For instance, i have a simple text file. I go to open it, and it sais access denied. When all of the above steps are done.

The only relevant thing that i can think of is that i copied all of my stuff on my D: drive to my external (which i formatted as NTFS to match my OS drive) prior to the reformat. Everything on the external works fine though. Its only the things on the D: Drive.

WTH!!?!

Its frustrating. Please help, these are a lot of folders and a lot of files.

LoL. All other issues i got responses within like, an hour... I guess permission issues aren't as fun. Hah. I know they weren't when i was working for apple (forgive me for my sins)

im hoping i wont have to goto command prompt or some crazy crap to fix similar to Command Line in Mac =(

i always feel like i'm going to fat finger a reformat command or something haha. (good thing i imaged the machine)

Assuming you aren't trying to access system files or folders, have you tried changing permissions on D:\?

You need to set the owner and the permissions, there are also two checkboxes you need to make sure are set. Seem images below.

FIXED
I tried it all ways and nothing worked. tried it by meticulously changing the permissions on a few of the files that were troublesome, then by changing permissions on the entire D drive. Selected all options suggested, really i had tried before in the first place, in all honesty.

Prime example of why you need to back up. To resolve my problem, I just formatted the drive (Because i couldn't delete the problematic files and folders) via windows explorer and copied what i wanted from my external.

Yes, an excellent example. Glad you sorted it out.
