Due to the fact that SFC says that the uDWM.DLL is corrupt on my system, I'm attempting to replace it from the OS disc, according to Brink's tutorial. Everything seems to work fine, until the last step, and it pops an error dialog, saying that I can't, because it can't delete the original.

I'm assuming that this is due to some kind of a problem with file permissions, but when I check them in the original's properties, it says that the administrator (me) already has full control, with the exception of the special permissions box, which I have not been able to change, even though I am logged into the administrator account.

Anyone know how to tame this file, so that I can send it sailing, while extracting it's replacement?

Hello Seekermeister,

The error may be from the file being in use. You might see if using the command below in a Command Prompt at boot may allow you to manually copy and replace the system file say from your desktop.

Be sure to do steps 2A to 2D in this tutorial first to verify the drive letter of your Windows 7 drive. It's not always C: at boot.


Copy /y "full path of replacement uDWM.DLL file" "C:\Windows\System32\uDWM.dll"



For example, if the replacement uDWM.DLL is on my desktop, then I would use type this:

Copy /y "C:\Users\User-name\Desktop\uDWM.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\uDWM.dll"

I finally got around to taking care of this problem. I didn't use the Command Prompt, because I always feel like a fish out of water, or more accurately a sap in deep water, when I try to use that. I just used the method described in your tutorial to extract it just using Windows Explorer. At least this time it didn't squawk about anything, so I'm sure that uDWM.dll has been replaced. Not sure if it will make any real difference, because I don't know what to look for, but when looking at the description of it's functions, it seemed to tie to a lot of other processes. I suppose that I could verify that it is good and proper by running SFC again, but that tends to change too many things around for me to use it unless necessary.
