Perpetual start up repair purgatory.

Hi, my first post here after finding this forum on an internet search.
I have a 2 1/2 year old toshiba lap top.
Yesterday morning, I tried to start the lap top as usual, after seeing the window graphic for a few minutes a page with white text on a black background told me windows was unable to start.

There was an option for normal start up and repair start up which was recommended.
I went with the recommended start up, this is a dark blue/black screen with a large cursor.

I have let it sit in this mode for around 15 hours now.
A stint of 3 hours and another of 12 hours...When you try to start up you never get any further.

I tried to start in normal mode, it tries for a minute of two then the recommended start up repair screen default appears.

I have recovery discs made when the lap top was new.
I have tried putting them in the d drive, they spin up but seem to be ignored.

Prior to ceasing to start up, I had no problems with the laptop, I use anti virus and malaware bytes.
Any ideas of what to do next would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks for such a prompt response.

The only thing is I never get to see such options om screen.

It never tells me if windows couldn't find a solution

For 15 hours I have had nothing but a large white cursor on a plain background.

The only options I have are normal start up and recommended start up.

I have windows 7 home premium if that makes any difference?

Are you able to go right to steps 5 and 6 ?

I don't get the chance to see so many options.
Certaimly not command prompt.

The normal start up and recommended start up repair are the only options in plain text without any fancy boxes

I really do appear to be stuck in a loop with such restricted options.

Try using this and see if you can get right to command prompt.. then if so.. follow the other tutorial from that pt on . http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html

I pressed F8 to get a few more options. As per the last link.

I selectef safe mode with command prompt as this was the only option that gave command prompt.

I waited for 5 mins and then it flipped back to my now familiar choices of normal or recommended repair start up and the large wjte cursor.

I tried the re install using the recovery discs made when the laptop was purchased.
I hot F2 to change the boot order to put Cd/Dvd as pririty.

I load up the recovery disc, press any key to start windows and windows loads files.

Guess what happens next?

The screen goes black/blue with the large white cursor.

I have been back into F2 to check the boot order and Cd/Dvd is in white at the top of the list.

Still stuck in this perpetual loop!

As before I never get to the screen to get system recovery options.

Whatever I do, either in hard drive or cd/dvd it states windows is loadimg files and then defaults to the blank screen and large white cursor.

I made the recovery discs 2 years ago. I assumed they were successful ly at the time.

Is this it?

Time to buy anoyher NON Toshiba laptop?

Would it make any sense to buy a new hard drive and attempt to load my recovery discs on to that?

I have never replaced a hard drive before, I assume it would have to be formatted first.

Is this a wild call or am I likely looking at a software issue witj my current problem?

I tried to do a repair install, but I dom't get far, the cd drive is ignored and the screen revert s to a system repair blank screen and large white cursor. It really is stuck in a loop.

I am able to look at links on my smart phone.

I cannot download anything as my laptop will not start up, hence me being on here in the first place!

From F8 I justtrief to revert to last known good configuration, after the windows logo disappear ed it reverted to the recommend ed windows recovery mode with blank screen and large white cursor.

The true perpetual loop!

I am sorry i should not have assumed you where on another Computer ... Is there any one you know of that would let you use their Computer .... If not it is very difficult what else to suggest ....

What do the initials Iso stamd for?
I am clearly a novice.
Even if I download on to a dvd or cd, there is no way I can transfer the file to my damaged laptop as it ignores the cd drive and reverts into blank screen windows start recovery mode.

It is a Windows7 Installation DIsc ... It would probably work and do the Repair it is different to your Recovery Disc so do not go by that .. If it was not able to Repair you would have the Option of a Clean Install .. Do you have the Product COA Key ? .... It should be on the Underside of your Laptop or maybe inside the battery compartment .. I sent you a PM can you please reply ..
