I , also , assumed they were using another computer to make the required dvd ' s the tutorials have said to make.. Thanks for assisting further maxie, as I am not able to continue right now..as i have some day shift stuff to attend to..

I need to find a solution before the end of July.

I can't understand why the laptop will not respond to any inputs and just reverts to the perpetual screen and cursor.

When it goes into start up repair mode for 12+ hours, it would work out it could not actually repair anything.?

I think your Recovery Disc must be at fault ..

Hard to know, when I down loaded them from the fresh laptop, they obviously completed successfully at the time.

You guys are the experts is this fixable or a waste of time?

I am not that keen on taking the laptop in for repair as I have banking details etc on the hard drive.

Is it possible to retrieve any data from the drive typically backed up a few weeks ago.

So repair, new hard drive or new laptop??

Please use a working computer and make the required dvd's that the tutorials require and you should be sorted out..

I doubt that it is your Hard Drive but even if that was so ..It is not that difficult to replace .. There has been lots of people on here with Computer problems .. We are able to solve most of their problems.. You problem IMO is easy fixable what you should do is try and get the ISO downloaded .. Once you have that we can help you either with a Repair or an Install ....

Today I have formatted a dvd rw and downloaded and copied a windows 7 home premium 64 bit IOS for which I have the key code.

I fired up my problem computer and changed the drive Bios to cd/dvd.

I put the w7 dvd in the drive for not much to happen with the message.

[cd/dvd TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633J ] is failed.

It doesn't look like the laptop has much interest in reading the cd?

Any ideas what to try next greatly appreciated!

I tried the re install using the recovery discs made when the laptop was purchased.
I hot F2 to change the boot order to put Cd/Dvd as pririty.

I load up the recovery disc, press any key to start windows and windows loads files.

Guess what happens next?

The screen goes black/blue with the large white cursor.

I have been back into F2 to check the boot order and Cd/Dvd is in white at the top of the list.

Still stuck in this perpetual loop!

Appears you didn't read the blue link because it has nothing to do with the grossly inferior Factory Recovery, but will provide you with a perfect install to begin enjoying Win7 on that laptop for the first time without the bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into Win7.

So study the link and ask back any questions for how to complete the steps.

If you run into installation problems these are resolved in 90% of cases by using the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Recovery Disks can sometimes be made to run by doing only the Diskpart Clean command found in these steps. But you'll still have the worst possible install of Win7 one can have vs. the best one in the world.

I have managed to borrow another laptop with windows 8 for the day, I am attempting to create a bootable dvd and usb using windows 7 usb dvd download tool which I have down loaded from the microsoft site.

Now my old (broken) windows 7 home premium was x16-96072. (64 bit)

I understand I can down load a comparable 64 from here.

Or so you would think.

My x16-96072 is not on the list.

I have downloaded english language versions of;

x17 24209

and x17-58997

Both have taken 1 1/2 hours each to load.

I downloaded x17 24209 first to be told by the windows usb dvd download tool, " This is not a valid ISO file, please selct another and try again"

So, I downloaded x17-58997...To be told the same thing!

Could anyone please tell me which file is comparable with my old x16-96072 ?

I am stunned that there is a list of apparent ISO files, that you only find out after downloading are not valid.
WTF indeed!

Why would windows 7 usb dvd download tol suggest 58997 is not a valid ISO file.

I am on windows 8 having downloaded both ISO 58997 and windows 7 download tool, it shouldn't make any difference I am on W 8 surely???

No it usually does work ... It has some thing to do with a Loader i think .. But Rufus should work for sure ...
