Photoshop CS4 Performance

Hi Guys

I have installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 on my PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. But whenever I open it it takes like 1 minute to respond to every click !

i.e. IT IS VERY SLOW

I don't know why this has happened .. but I'm guessing it is because I installed something like 5000+ fonts in the Fonts Folder for Windows.

What are you thoughts on this and how could I fix this problem ?

fonts will only slow down the start up when it loads the fonts, not the program itself. You're set up is similar to mine, so you really shouldn't be having that problem. You can try going to a windows basic theme and see if that helps the performance.

I also saw in your specs you have 4gigs of ram, you should be aware that 32-bit operating systems will only recognize up to 3gigs.

I know about the Gigs on a 32bit OS.

I went to the basic theme .. and I'm still getting the same issue

Is there a way I can restore my Fonts Folder to its original state (i.e. when I first installed Win 7) ????

I know about System Restore, but I've turned that off like 2 months ago .. so that is no use ... I mean any other methods ?

Should calm down once Photoshop has indexed the fonts! 5000 is a lot of fonts, how long ago did you install the fonts??

Check also where your Scratch Disks are-- Photoshop CS4 even in the 32 bit version has improved beyond all recognition -- I even run it quite speedily on a 1 GB RAM Windows XP Virtual machine.

It should fly (and it does) on any W7 computer. (on X-64 it's brilliant as it is a true 64 bit application).

6,000 fonts seems an awful lot -- why don't you just use subsets.

Even so CS4 shouldn't take that long - Windows manages the fonts not CS4.

I don't know why this is happening to you. The problem is Photoshop has great features, but it's overly bloated. Whereas Gimp is nice and light, but doesn't have enough capabilities. It would be great if there was a cross between them that was light on resources without all the pointless bloat, and great on features and usability.

So can anoyone please tell me how I can reverse back the fonts that I added to the Windows Fonts folder !

Try following this video to disable plugins you do not use.
Adobe Photoshop Killer Tips Speed Photoshop Start-up
It is for CS2 but it will work for CS4.
Also just delete the fonts you do not need?
Control Panel > Fonts

there are 6000+ fonts .. lol I can't go through them one by one to see which ones were default windows fonts and which have been added by me !!

What does the [ Restore Default Font Settings ] under Font Settings ?

Dude it sounds like fonts are not the problem, they tried to tell you that. And I've been having a similar issue with Flash CS4 which I posted here and the Adobe forums: Adobe Forums: Flash CS4 is UNUSABLE in Windows 7...

But if you really want to delete the fonts you added just go to C:\Windows\Fonts. Switch to Details view. Right-click the column header and show Date Modified. Sort by that, and delete everything since the installation date.

And don't be such a giant font whore, it's woefully unprofessional

Its alright I've moved to Win 7 64Bit, and have not installed any new fonts and now Photoshop is working fine !

This is my first post on any forum. I have an Asus g72gx Core 2 Duo, 6gb ddr3 ram, nvidia gtx 260m gpu. I can't figure out why Photoshop cs4 is running slow. Please Help!
