I work with several projects in Photoshop that have many revisions, and I've always saved them as "Version1.2.psd", "Version4.51.psd" etc etc, without any problem, in Windows XP.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and CS4 simultaneously and when I went to save my file called "Version1.2", it dropped the ".2" and tried to save it as just "Version1.psd", like it thinks my period is a mistake. I overlooked this at first because I wasn't used to it and ended up saving over another file of the same name. I can manually type in the ".2" extension and still save it how I want, but this gets annoying after a while and if I'm working quickly can easily be overlooked.

I tested this problem in Illustrator CS4 and Microsoft Word and it does not happen there, so I really can't figure out if this is a Windows or a just Photoshop change. Does anyone experience this same thing and know if there's some setting to fix it??

Hi.

I don't experience that issue. Have you updated the program?

I have not. I just installed it fresh off the disc on Monday, have there been any recent updates since CS4's release?

edit: I found one on adobe's site (the only one that looked relevant, all the rest were optional plugins or stuff for other languages) and it said gave me an error saying it was already installed.

Run the updater in the program itself, as there is about 230+mb to download.

Yeah but you have to close Photoshop or any other Adobe application open or else they won't update ;) The adobe updater will take care of it.

You probably just need to type out the ".psd" yourself at the end.

This is strange... I tested it out on my computer at home (also running Windows 7 and CS4) and it did something completely different. It kept the ".2" in the filename in the save as dialogue box, however when I pressed "ok" it didn't add the .psd extension and saved it as an invalid file type. When I went to save it as a pdf, it dropped the ".2" altogether, like my pc here at work does. What on earth.

What does yours do??
